Qualifications

Weldco-Beales Manufacturing designs and manufactures specialized heavy equipment attachments for the construction, forestry, mining, scrap recycling, road maintenanceand resource industries throughout Canada, the USA and internationally. Weldco-Beales is currently recruiting for a full-time Production Planning Manager for our three manufacturing facilities. This role can be based at any of the WBM locations : Edmonton, Barrie, or Langley.

Reporting to the Director of Operations the Production Planning Manager is responsible for managing the overall corporate production plan for the organization. The Production Planning Manager will take a lead role in ensuring operational stability and optimizing production throughput across Weldco's manufacturing facilities. Promoting continuous improvement in all aspects of the operation through the implementation of standardized production planning procedures is a key objective in this role.

The role requires both strategic vision and hands-on operational oversight, focusing on innovation to optimize the manufacturing process and maximize productivity. The scope of the Production Planning Manager role encompasses production scheduling, inventory control, and resource allocation. There will be a focus on efficiency while meeting deadlines and maintaining the high-quality standards of Weldco. This position requires active leadership of a nationally dispersed team of facility production planners.

How you'll make a difference :

  • Provide relevant production documentation and reports that enable analysis of production / scheduling resources (labour and material) requirements to meet facility and customer expectations.
  • Communicate and collaborate with relevant Managers to coordinate priorities, resources (labour and material) and activities, within or between branches, that enable an accurate production schedule for the facilities.
  • Manage and coordinate facility production processes using Lean manufacturing concepts to effectively and efficiently improve delivery of products to meet or exceed customer requirements and optimize manufacturing costs.
  • Use a data-driven approach to monitor, manage, and maximize operational productivity, continuously evaluate and review processes and systems related to Planning and Scheduling and design / implement changes that increase efficiency, improve performance, and reduce costs.
  • Lead and manage the order fulfillment process by balancing delivery compliance and manufacturing stability requirements, factoring in our centres of excellence and balanced scheduling initiatives.
  • Optimize capacity planning utilization at each site, including monthly reporting that enables site leadership to accurately forecast future staff utilization.
  • Provide monthly long term capacity planning reports and information. Compile, generate, and distribute any pertinent management and production reports to the respective Managers. Manage actual product and operational costs versus budgeted projections.
  • Provide leadership and direction to the Production departments and their personnel by reviewing the work of staff and ensuring it is completed with a high degree of accuracy and integrity.
  • Participate and lead the Product Assessment process between Sales, Engineering, and Supply Chain to ensure product / design compliance, material requirement integrity, and documentation quality.
  • Collaborate with the HR team on human capital planning to establish career development programs (including career pathing, professional development, leadership development, and mentorship), ensuring that the talent necessary to achieve organizational objectives is readily available.
  • Manage and maintain appropriate global inventory levels required to meet production demands and customer requirements within budgetary constraints and dictated lead times.
  • Establish and manage inventory parameters (safety stock, min / max, etc.,) to be used to ensure clear understanding of inventory practices, inventory stock levels, and inventory dollar projections as they relate to inventory KPIs (i.e., dollars, turns, obsolescence).
  • Collaborate with operations leadership to embed Lean manufacturing thinking and methodologies in production planning processes.

What you bring :

  • Diploma and / or degree in logistics, supply chain management, or related field.
  • 5+ years of relevant experience in manufacturing
  • 3+ years of experience in heavy equipment or steel manufacturing, or similar industries is preferred.
  • Proficiency in using ERPs for production planning, particularly with Business Central will be an asset.
