What the position entails:
The CAD & Survey Production Manager is responsible for overseeing and coordinating all office production activities, operations, and staff to ensure adherence to established procedures. Office production includes survey data processing and QC, survey calculations, CAD and plan checking or deliverable QC. The role involves implementing practices to maximize production efforts and improve overall effectiveness and performance on a national level.What you will do:
Communication and Coordination:- Understand project requirements from Project Managers to provide the most efficient and effective staffing solutions.
- Liaise with managers and personnel from other departments and attend department and management meetings.
- Act as a client liaison for quality control issues.
- Collaborate across regions to ensure efficient utilization of national human resources.
- Collaborate with National Field Production Manager for the purpose of reviewing overall workflow efficiencies and scheduling work from field returns.
Task Management:- Accountable for overall all office task tracking and reporting. Currently, the primary role includes ensuring the Task Tracking System is organized and up to date. Each regional Production Team Lead is responsible for keeping their section current, with regular updates from each coordinator.
- Participate and lead process improvements to Task Tracking System Replacement expected 2025-2026.
- Follow up with team leads/members to ensure project deadlines are met.
- Ensure the CAD & Geomatics teams follow documented procedures and established quality management system processes.
Staff Development and Management:- Develop and maintain a skills matrix of office production team, available to leaders across the organization.
- Work with leaders across Canada to ensure proper utilization of staff skills and competencies according to the skills matrix.
- Oversee and participate in CAD and Geomatics Technician employee recruitment, retention, performance, and salary review processes.
- Onboard and orient new hires about policies and procedures.
- Assist in developing and modifying department procedures and processes.
- Oversee and supervise CAD, Data Processors, Coordinators, and Production Team Leads.
Quality Assurance:- Review and approve any software or hardware requests from the CAD & Geomatics team and PMs.
- Oversee field data calculations, aid in miscellaneous calculations, turnover packages, and as-builts as needed.
- Oversee plan and deliverable preparation processes (CAD, Plan checking, Reports, Surfaces)
- Identify non-conformances and opportunities for improvement.
- Work quickly to resolve non-conformances in accordance with the quality management system.
- Escalate high-risk quality action requests to the National Quality Manager.
Training and Development:- Assist in developing training tools and best practices for the CAD & Geomatics team.
- Maintain training tools, including an annual review and update where required.
- Educate staff and enforce production and standards procedures and policies.
- Be open and receptive to all suggestions/feedback on current procedures, policies, and expediencies.
Other Responsibilities:- Support and cover team lead responsibilities during absences, which includes organizing data processing, drafting, and plan checking tasks.
- Work with team leads to create subject matter expert groups; to ensure cross-training and that technical questions are being answered both accurately and in a timely matter.
What you will bring:
- Diploma or Degree in Geomatics Engineering Technology, Engineering Design & Drafting Technology, Civil Engineering Technology, or related discipline; or certification in related CAD/GIS courses.
- 10+ years’ experience in AutoCAD and Civil 3D drafting and design in a consulting environment.
- Understanding of survey drafting and QC workflows and processes.
- 10+ years of experience leading projects and teams.
- An understanding of CAD/GIS requirements on various surveying projects.
- Familiar with CAD submittals standards for designs and as-builts for local municipalities.
- Working knowledge and familiarity with the AutoCAD software (Civil 3D, Map, Land Desktop), Bluebeam, Microsoft (Word, Excel, Outlook), Survey Data Processing Software (TBC, Starnet, Cyclone)
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to support and mobilize a team and foster a positive work environment.
- Ability to liaison with clients.
- Ability to work effectively and competently with people at all levels in the organization; is a great team member.
- Ability to work without supervision/effective time management and strong organizational skills.
