We are currently seeking a dynamic Production Planner to join our team at our Scarborough location. As a Production Planner, you will partner with the customer service, estimating, prepress, production, and purchasing teams to obtain essential information, design a roadmap to create the perfect product for our customers in a timely and organized fashion. You will play a vital role in managing the lifecycle of our product creation success.

Responsibilities

  • Utilize available information to create complete and accurate job-specific records within the ERP system to assist manufacturing in producing items that conform to the customer's specifications.
  • Reporting directly to the Regional Customer Service Manager, the Production Planner must cultivate and ensure effective relationships and communications with the customer service, estimating, and prepress departments to obtain information pertinent to production and the estimate preparation.
  • Take any reasonable action necessary to carry out the duties and responsibilities of this position, so long as such action does not deviate from established company policies and is consistent with sound business judgment, including establishing/approving color and creating standards on behalf of our customers when they waive off the right to a press approval, in person or virtually. Launch Design & Development projects (R&D) for QA qualification.
  • Exercise discretion and independent judgment to make decisions without prior approval or review of the Regional Customer Service Manager, determining cost impact relating to operations impacting all job specifications including material substitutions, machine routings, and workflow. Serve as primary contact for all plant departments for job-specific information. Provide technical support to our customer/design affiliates during new project development.
  • Collaborate with the Estimating team to evaluate job routing options for lowest cost and highest margins (when required). Determine the best materials, machine routings, and workflow to positively impact the company’s bottom line, liaising with Purchasing and Estimating.
  • Audit order flow process including job masters, production packets, and artwork to ensure quality control and process compliance at the Master Estimate level.
  • Compare and evaluate all orders and determine if redesign and/or transfer to other equipment or plants is needed for optimal efficiency and cost savings.
  • Determine the correct course of action and coordinate implementation changes with all plant departments through the Change Management Process.
  • Collaborate with manufacturing to implement modifications and maintenance of master data within the ERP.
  • Consolidate material requirements, allocate, and recommend the substitution of raw materials to facilitate efficient procurement.
  • Learn and understand customer needs and manufacturing capabilities to adequately perform duties such as selecting proper tools, inks, and coatings to meet customer expectations, as well as creating tooling specifications when new tooling is required.
  • Ensure smooth flow of information to the shop floor.
  • Create key ERP components relating to master data, such as detailed information of finished goods items, master estimates, custom products, production jobs, print changes, work instructions, job tickets, etc., depending upon site ERP.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) from a four-year college or university; or one to two years related experience and/or training; equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must have 2+ years of experience working in the label or printing industry.
  • Ability to analyze and write technical procedures and business reports.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with a proven ability to build positive relationships at all levels.
  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving capabilities, with the ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Strong computer literacy and proficiency using Excel, Access, Outlook, and PowerPoint; prior experience using Radius or Labeltraxx and related software is preferred.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, and ability to adjust focus.
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical interference, fundamentals of plane, solid geometry, and trigonometry, and apply fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
