Job summary

Atlantic Windows and Doors is seeking a Production Engineer to drive continuous improvement across manufacturing processes and lead equipment upgrade initiatives. The role requires periodic travel between Port Elgin, NB and Amherst, NS facilities to support projects as needed.

You will analyze production data, coordinate equipment installations, and work with maintenance, quality, and production teams to optimize safety, quality, and efficiency while aligning with budget and ROI targets.

Qualifications

  • 3–5 years in manufacturing/production environment.
  • Post-secondary education in Industrial Engineering, Engineering Technology, Operations Management, or related field.
  • Lean/Six Sigma/Kaizen experience is an asset.
  • Experience evaluating and coordinating installation of manufacturing equipment.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; translate data into action.
  • Excellent project management and cross-functional coordination.
  • Effective communicator with production staff, vendors, and leadership.
  • Willingness to travel between Port Elgin, NB and Amherst, NS.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate purchase, installation, and commissioning of new equipment with vendors and teams.
  • Develop and maintain process documentation, standard work, and layout plans.
  • Analyze production data to identify bottlenecks and downtime drivers; target cost reductions.
  • Collaborate with production, maintenance, and quality teams to troubleshoot issues.
  • Support capital project planning, budgeting, and timelines for equipment initiatives.
  • Ensure all changes comply with health, safety, and regulatory requirements.
  • Travel between Port Elgin, NB and Amherst, NS facilities as needed.
  • Support costing and financial analysis of equipment and process changes; ROI evaluation.

Job description

Atlantic Windows and Doors is a leading Atlantic Canadian manufacturer of PVC windows and steel doors, with facilities in Port Elgin, NB and Amherst, NS. As we continue to grow and modernize our operations, we are looking for a Production Engineer to drive continuous improvement across our manufacturing processes and lead equipment upgrade and replacement initiatives. This role will participate in projects and initiatives at both facilities based on operational needs and will require periodic travel between sites.

What You'll Do
  • Identify, lead, and implement continuous improvement initiatives across the manufacturing process to improve efficiency, quality, and safety.
  • Evaluate current equipment and processes and propose upgrades or replacements to support production capacity and reliability.
  • Coordinate the purchase, installation, and commissioning of new equipment, working closely with vendors, contractors, and internal teams.
  • Develop and maintain process documentation, standard work, and layout plans to support scalable production.
  • Analyze production data to identify bottlenecks, downtime drivers, and opportunities for cost reduction.
  • Partner with production, maintenance, and quality teams to troubleshoot equipment and process issues.
  • Support capital project planning, including scoping, budgeting, and timelines for equipment initiatives.
  • Ensure all process and equipment changes comply with applicable health, safety, and regulatory requirements.
  • Travel between the Port Elgin, NB and Amherst, NS facilities as needed to support projects and initiatives at both sites.
  • Support costing and financial analysis of equipment and process changes, including capital expenditure justification and ROI evaluation.
What You Bring
  • 3 to 5 years of relevant experience in a manufacturing or production environment.
  • Post-secondary education in Industrial Engineering, Engineering Technology, Operations Management, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated experience with continuous improvement methodologies (e.g., Lean, Six Sigma, Kaizen) is an asset.
  • Experience evaluating, specifying, and coordinating the installation of manufacturing equipment.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to translate data into practical action.
  • Excellent project management and cross-functional coordination skills.
  • Effective communicator, comfortable working with production staff, vendors, and leadership alike.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office/365; experience with CAD or process simulation tools is an asset.
  • Working knowledge of ERP systems (e.g., production modules, inventory, work orders) and aptitude for learning new systems.
  • Familiarity with product/process costing, and the ability to factor cost impacts into equipment and process decisions.
  • Willingness and ability to travel periodically between the Port Elgin, NB and Amherst, NS facilities.
