Job description

If you are a talented and experienced Senior Manufacturing Engineer, Aplin has the right opportunity for you! Our client, a leader in their field, has partnered with Aplin to grow their team in Halifax, Nova Scotia! The Manufacturing Engineer will collaborate with Design Engineering, Quality Assurance, and Production Support to design, monitor, and optimize manufacturing processes for both existing and new product lines.

Key Responsibilities
  • Respond to process failures and perform root cause analysis.
  • Develop, modify, and update work instructions required to build products.
  • Evaluate new product designs and advise on their suitability for production.
  • Support production in improving lead times and reducing scrap using Continuous Improvement methodologies.
  • Design new processes, procedures, and manufacturing systems, and lead their implementation, including training of shop floor employees and support staff.
  • Conduct work cell and production line balancing, line layout design, and time-and-motion studies.
  • Apply working knowledge of product design and assembly to manufacturing processes.
  • Design, develop, and implement production jigs and fixtures to improve safety, quality, and efficiency.
  • Estimate costs, production times, and staffing requirements for new designs.
  • Develop standardized design criteria across product lines and participate in design reviews to ensure Design for Manufacturing principles are applied.
  • Lead the transition from engineering design to manufacturing, including optimal development of routings and structures for procurement and production, while meeting quality standards and configuration traceability requirements.
  • Design and implement new production line and facility layouts.
  • Drive improvements in product quality and margins by reducing scrap and rework and eliminating non-value-added activities.
  • Support investigations of product non-conformance, identify root causes, and recommend corrective actions.
  • Conduct periodic process reviews, identify deficiencies, and ensure corrective actions are implemented.
  • Collaborate with Procurement and Production Support to improve material flow and reduce inventory.
  • Liaise with manufacturing cells, engineering, and other departments to identify potential product improvement opportunities.
  • Investigate new techniques and equipment to ensure best practices are integrated into manufacturing.
  • Act as a change agent to educate and influence team members on process implementation and improvements.
Qualifications
  • Degree in Industrial, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering, or another relevant discipline with significant manufacturing experience.
  • Experience as a Manufacturing Engineer or in a similar role within an industrial environment.
  • Eligibility to obtain Canadian government security clearance and meet Controlled Goods Program requirements.
Desired Skills
  • Knowledge of continuous improvement methodologies (LEAN, Six Sigma, TQM).
  • Experience with work measurement and standardization.
  • Aerospace or defence industry experience is a strong asset.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Excel and Visio.
  • Competency with ERP systems, including routings and Bill of Materials structures.
  • Strong technical writing skills, with experience creating work instructions preferred.
  • Familiarity with 3D CAD software (SolidWorks preferred).
  • Competency in 2D CAD software (AutoCAD or MicroStation preferred).
  • Strong data analysis skills, including Statistical Process Control.
  • Knowledge of engineering change control processes.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, schematics, and technical documentation.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Agile, quick learner, and innovative problem solver.
