Union Film Group, a dynamic production company specializing in vertical short dramas, is seeking a talented and creative Production Designer to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for shaping the visual aesthetic of our productions, helping to create a compelling and immersive world that enhances storytelling. As a Production Designer, you will work closely with the Director, Cinematographer, and Art Department to design sets, props, and overall visual style to elevate the narrative experience.
Key Responsibilities:
- Set Design & Construction: Collaborate with the Director and team to develop and execute set designs that align with the vision and tone of the short drama.
- Concept Development: Create visual mood boards, sketches, and renderings to communicate design ideas and ensure alignment with the overall creative direction.
- Props & Set Dressing: Oversee the sourcing, design, and arrangement of props, furniture, and set dressing to enhance the world-building and atmosphere.
- Collaboration: Work with other departments, including costume, lighting, and camera, to ensure a cohesive look and feel across all visual elements.
- Location Scouting: Assist in finding and designing appropriate locations that match the vision of the project.
- Budget Management: Ensure design elements stay within the allocated budget, sourcing materials and managing costs effectively.
- Team Leadership: Lead and supervise the art department crew, including assistants, construction workers, and set dressers.
- Problem-Solving: Address any design challenges that arise during production, offering practical solutions that keep the project on schedule and within budget.
- Post-Production Collaboration: Ensure that designs translate effectively into the final product, working with the post-production team when necessary for visual consistency.
Qualifications:
- Proven experience as a Production Designer in film, television, or other related media, with a strong portfolio of vertical drama projects (short-form content is a plus).
- Strong understanding of design principles, art direction, and the visual language of storytelling.
- Proficient in design software (e.g., AutoCAD, SketchUp, Photoshop, etc.).
- Ability to work under tight deadlines while maintaining high standards of creativity and craftsmanship.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to collaborate across multiple departments.
- Detail-oriented, with a strong eye for design and visual composition.
- Knowledge of the specific requirements of shooting vertical content (social media, mobile-first platforms) is a plus.
- A degree in Production Design, Fine Arts, or a related field is preferred, but not required with equivalent experience.
