TÜV SÜD Canada is seeking a full-time Product Safety Engineer to support Services in Canada.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Determine project scope, develop investigation plans, and define project specifications such as cost, time, and sample requirements by analyzing client input, available data, and product construction.
  2. Travel as needed to witness or oversee tests at client or TÜV SÜD sites.
  3. Perform and monitor product assessments according to applicable requirements.
  4. Conduct technical file reviews, document findings, and prepare client reports promptly.
  5. Review product design, engineering, and manufacturing, documenting deficiencies.
  6. Serve as the primary liaison between the client and operating areas throughout project phases.
  7. Communicate technical issues and project progress to clients.
  8. Maintain knowledge of global regulatory requirements and develop rapport with reviewers and team members.
  9. Involve experts (Battery, Environmental, Energy, etc.) as needed, following standards and regulations.
  10. Work independently, assessing compliance with regulatory standards.
  11. Analyze complex regulations and determine appropriate actions.
  12. Collect and document data per test procedures, including test reports and data analysis.
  13. Ensure project timelines are met.
  14. Communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders regarding technical questions, standards, and test procedures.
  15. Assist in reviewing and preparing tests on industrial electric vehicles and energy storage systems, such as passive propagation, short circuit, overcharge, and others.
  16. Follow testing standards (e.g., UL series standards).
  17. Maintain confidentiality of client and product information.
  18. Lead client meetings to discuss project updates and issues.
  19. Innovate and develop new testing techniques and procedures.
  20. Ensure compliance of consumables and safety standards.
  21. Perform project reviews and testing as required.
  22. Adhere to safety and work standards, including PPE use.
  23. Stay updated on product requirements, test procedures, and technological advances through training and reading.
  24. Follow all TÜV SÜD policies and procedures.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Understanding of basic electrical and mechanical concepts.
  • Highly observant with attention to detail.
  • Experience in electrical/electronic product testing and certification.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Self-motivated with a positive attitude.

EDUCATION:

Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or equivalent with experience.

EXPERIENCE:

  • At least 5 years of electrical safety testing experience in a laboratory setting.
  • Knowledge of national and international electrical safety standards, especially related to electric vehicles, batteries, and energy storage.
  • Familiarity with test equipment and standards committees.
  • Ability to work independently and in teams.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
