Position Overview

Under the direction of the Director, Retail Operations, the Product Owner, Retail Systems owns the Shopify POS product within the agile Retail Pod. The role sets priorities for point of sale, translates store and cross-functional needs into a clear and defensible backlog, leads the testing and rollout of every release, and acts as the connection point between store teams and internal technology partners — so that the systems our stores depend on enhance the customer experience, maximize efficiency and drive profitability.

What You'll Do
  • Backlog Ownership: Own and maintain the product backlog for Shopify POS across the retail fleet, in partnership with the Director, Retail Operations and the Retail Systems technology team.
  • Prioritization & Story Definition: Act as the decision‑maker on Shopify POS backlog priority: write user stories and acceptance criteria, and rank work by store impact, commercial value and delivery effort.
  • Agile Pod Delivery: Participate as the Product Owner in the Retail Pod's agile ceremonies — backlog refinement, sprint planning, daily stand-up, review and retrospective — partnering with the Scrum Master and development team to ensure each sprint delivers defined, accepted value.
  • Subject Matter Expertise: Serve as the subject matter expert for Shopify POS and the connected retail stack, and provide guidance on priorities within the Retail Pod.
  • Release Management: Lead release management for Shopify POS: assess Shopify platform release, plan the adoption of new versions and features, and communicate change to stores well ahead of deployment.
  • UAT Ownership: Own UAT for POS releases and enhancements — defining test scripts, coordinating store and cross‑functional testers, and holding sign‑off before anything reaches production.
  • Incident Escalation: Own the escalation path for POS incidents, partnering with IT support to resolve them, and feed recurring themes back into the backlog rather than treating them as one‑off fixes.
  • Performance Monitoring: Define and monitor product health measures such as transaction speed, checkout error rates, uptime and feature adoption, and report on them to Retail Operations leadership.
  • Cross‑Functional Collaboration: Work closely with other business lines, pods and stakeholders to negotiate priorities and integrate technology solutions that enhance the in‑store consumer journey.
  • Documentation & Enablement: Maintain all standard operating procedures and training materials for Shopify POS and other retail systems, and support technology projects as they relate to Retail as needed.
