Job description

Our client, a leading financial institution in Downtown Toronto, is looking for a Product Owner / Business Analyst to elicit, analyze, and document detailed business and technical requirements. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work with one of the Top 5 Banks in Canada.

Typical Day in Role:

Project Name: Digital Advisor Experience – an initiative providing an improved search experience and a new way to collect and share helpful material with a ‘Pinterest’-type tool.

Advisor Facing Tools – tools created for bank advisors (and third-party advisors at other institutions) that allow for portfolio comparison, fund comparisons, scenario analysis, and fund analysis.

Morning – Agile ceremonies, daily stand-up, refinement, and planning with a development team (15 members).

Lunch – Together with teammates in the office.

Afternoon – Requirements elicitation, user testing, research, and working on user stories & documentation.

Key Responsibilities:

• Requirements Analysis & Documentation:
• Maintain requirement traceability and oversee the creation of user stories, acceptance criteria, and functional specifications.
• Facilitate requirement gathering workshops with stakeholders to ensure alignment with business goals.
• Develop product feature specifications and manage roadblocks to meet sprint/release goals.

• Process Documentation & Improvement:
• Drive continuous improvement by analyzing existing processes for enhancement opportunities.
• Develop and maintain process documentation, including process flows, wireframes, and user journey maps.
• Validate solutions through testing and data analysis, collaborating with QA teams to ensure alignment with acceptance criteria.
• Own and refine the product backlog, prioritizing items based on business value and technical constraints.
• Break down complex features into manageable user stories and support sprint planning and backlog grooming sessions.

• Cross-functional Collaboration:
• Act as a liaison between business stakeholders and development teams, ensuring UX designs meet business requirements and features align with product strategy.
• Support the development team during implementation and communicate progress, risks, and issues to stakeholders.

Must-Have Skills:

• 3+ years of relevant digital product management and business analysis experience.
• Strong grasp of Agile methodologies and SDLC.
• Proven ability to drive results and collaborate with various partners (product, engineering, design, compliance, legal, etc.).
• Proficiency with product management tools (e.g., Jira, Roadmunk, Confluence, Figma, or equivalent).
• Experience with Google Analytics or similar client analytics tools.

Nice-To-Have Skills:

• Analytical skills and experience leveraging data to inform decisions.
• Excellent communication skills, capable of storytelling to garner support and buy-in.

Soft Skills Required:

• Effective communication, especially with offshore teams with varying English proficiency.
• Problem solving, adaptability, facilitation, and critical thinking.

Education:

• University Degree (BA, MBA, or equivalent) or related work experience in business analysis and product ownership.
