YOUR ROLE & RESPONSIBILITIES
Job Summary:
The Product Manager is a key role within the commercial team at Brenntag Canada. Key accountabilities include maintaining and growing market share with assigned product portfolio. The Product Manager will drive profitability through active market sales price management and other commercial excellence activities. The Product Manager will also engage in developing, maintaining, and acquiring key supplier relationships as relevant to their market. Product managers will deploy the Senior Product Manager’s strategy with their respective teams. This role may have direct reports.
Job Description:
Sourcing and supplier management (50%)
- Develop and maintain strategic and value-added relationships with key (1st tier and 2nd tier) suppliers/vendors, sourcing products, and engage in business reviews.
- Monitors assigned customer/ product portfolio profitability on an ongoing basis and initiates Sales Price Management initiatives as required in close coordination with Regional and Industry Commercial Leadership.
- Product Managers regularly reviews all commercial opportunities in collaboration with regional and industry management.
- Jointly responsible and accountable for the execution of procurement activities for assigned portfolios in close coordination with National Procurement Team and North American programs.
- Manage purchasing forecast as required.
- Develop contingency plans to ensure minimal supply chain disruptions.
- Participate in annual budget based on growth plans with suppliers in coordination with Senior Regional and Industry Commercial Managers as required.
- Work together with Industry Market Managers in Brenntag Specialties to discuss product sourcing responsibilities, avoid overlaps, and derive potential cross-selling initiatives.
- Manage inventory and working capital of assigned products in close conjunction with Procurement to achieve overall target for inventory turns as well as individual target for dead and extremely slow-moving stock.
- Manage new product introductions to the sales team through training sessions.
Product Manager executes customer and or supplier visits and calls as required.
Product Market know-how and strategy development including opportunities (25%)
- Identify and communicate trends, target markets and new opportunities within sub-industry/application that hold business potential.
- Define and prioritize market gaps with growth potential and develop marketing and business positioning campaigns to be executed by the sales organization.
- Define the themes, priorities and focus areas for exhibitions and participate in regional trade fair activities.
- Identify and manage potential supplier/product conflicts and align with colleagues as required.
Pricing input and margin management (25%)
- Set pricing strategy based on market knowledge and supplier information.
- Senior Product Manager is responsible for managing pricing requests from the sales organization.
YOUR PROFILE
Education and Experience:
- University degree in relevant field.
- Previous work experience (5 -7 years) in chemical field (distribution) - e.g., distributor, manufacturer.
- Strong product and market knowledge of respective Industry/Application.
Performance Indicators:
- Gross Margin / Gross Margin Quality: actual gross margin/ gross margin quality (%) achieved in your portfolio for the business year will be measured against the previous year and budget.
- Volume/ Market Share: in your portfolio for the business year will be measured against the previous year and budget.
- Inventory Turns: actual inventory turn achieved in the business year will be measured against the previous year and budget for assigned product portfolio.
- Combined Dead Stock and Extreme Slow Stock: actual dead stock and extreme slow stock achieved in the business year will be measured against the previous year and budget.
- Safety: Ensure you have a personal safety plan in place geared towards achieving and maintaining the Triple 0 (0 Misloads, 0 TRIR and 0 LTIR). Demonstrate Leadership to further drive Brenntag’s safety plan.
- Leadership: Ensure that you lead and motivate your team applying the six Brenntag Core values as well as applying them in conducting your business with customers and suppliers alike. Managers are responsible for managing, developing and performance managing team members.
- Commercial Excellence: Demonstrate strong customer orientation. Strong focus on existing and new customer development. Sales price management, monthly business reviews, opportunity management.
