Placements24 is seeking a Product Development Mechanical Engineer to join its R&D team in Kimberley. You will lead mechanical design from concept through to market launch, developing innovative products with CAD, prototyping, testing, and refinement.

You will collaborate with industrial designers, electrical engineers, and marketing to optimize manufacturability, cost, and user experience, while applying materials science knowledge and testing methodologies.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• 3–5 years of product development or mechanical design experience.
• Proficiency in 3D CAD software (SolidWorks, Inventor).
• Experience with prototyping techniques and testing methodologies.
• Understanding of materials science and manufacturing processes for consumer or industrial goods.
• Strong problem-solving skills and creativity.

Responsibilities

• Conceptualize, design, and develop mechanical aspects of new products using CAD.
• Create prototypes, perform testing, and iterate designs.
• Collaborate with industrial designers, electrical engineers, and marketing throughout the product development lifecycle.
• Perform analysis (e.g., thermal, structural) to ensure product performance and durability.
• Prepare technical documentation, including BOMs and manufacturing guidelines.
