Job Description:

Role:

As a Product Designer, you play a crucial role in designing intuitive and impactful software solutions tailored to the unique needs of the marine industry. Your work involves close collaboration with cross-functional teams to deliver exceptional user experiences that drive business success.

What you are responsible for:

User Research:

  • Conduct in-depth interviews and surveys with users to gather insights on their needs and challenges.

  • Analyze user data and feedback to identify patterns and areas for improvement.

  • Create user personas and journey maps to visualize user experiences and guide design decisions.

Design Thinking:

  • Facilitate design thinking workshops to brainstorm and ideate innovative solutions.

  • Develop and iterate on design concepts through sketching, wireframing, and prototyping.

  • Apply user-centered design principles to ensure solutions are both functional and appealing.

Wireframing and Prototyping:

  • Create low-fidelity wireframes to outline the basic structure and layout of new features.

  • Develop interactive prototypes to test and validate design concepts with users.

  • Refine designs based on user feedback and usability testing results.

Collaboration:

  • Work closely with product managers to align design solutions with business objectives and product roadmaps.

  • Collaborate with engineers to ensure designs are technically feasible and implemented accurately.

  • Communicate design decisions and rationale to stakeholders through presentations and documentation.

Usability Testing:

  • Plan and conduct usability testing sessions to evaluate the effectiveness of design solutions.

  • Analyze usability test results and identify areas for improvement.

  • Iterate on designs based on usability testing feedback to enhance user experience.

Design Systems:

  • Develop and maintain a comprehensive design system to ensure consistency across all products.

  • Document design guidelines, patterns, and components for use by the design and development teams.

  • Continuously update and evolve the design system to accommodate new features and design trends.

Market Insights and Industry Knowledge:

  • Stay informed about the latest design trends, tools, and technologies relevant to the marine industry.

  • Attend industry conferences, workshops, and webinars to expand knowledge and network with peers.

  • Share insights and best practices with the team to foster a culture of continuous learning and improvement.

What you bring to the team:

Technical Acumen:

  • Proficiency in design tools such as Figma, Sketch, Adobe XD, and other relevant software.

  • Strong understanding of user-centered design principles, interaction design, and visual design.

  • Ability to create interactive prototypes and wireframes to test and validate design concepts.

  • Basic knowledge of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript to effectively communicate with engineering teams.

  • Solid understanding of the Software Development Life Cycle.

  • Ability to engage in technical discussions with development teams, architects, and engineers.

  • Working knowledge using JIRA, Confluence and Microsoft 365 product suite.

Business Acumen:

  • Strong understanding of product and software development lifecycle and market trends.

  • Ability to conduct user research and translate insights into actionable design solutions.

  • Experience in managing design projects, timelines, and deliverables to meet business objectives.

Communication and Collaboration:

  • Excellent communication skills to articulate design decisions and rationale to stakeholders.

  • Proven ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams, including product managers, engineers, and marketers.

  • Ability to present design concepts and solutions effectively to diverse audiences.

Problem-Solving and Decision-Making:

  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to apply design thinking methodologies to create innovative solutions.

  • Experience in conducting usability testing and iterating designs based on feedback.

  • Ability to analyze complex problems and develop creative, user-centered solutions.

  • Self-motivated and innovative team player – you take charge and drive change!

Certifications and Training:

  • Design Certifications: Relevant certifications in UX/UI design, human-computer interaction, or relevant experience.

Bonus points if you also have:

  • Maritime Industry Knowledge.
