Job summary

Suncor Energy is seeking a skilled Contact Engineer to support plant operations, optimize processes, and drive continuous improvement initiatives at our Calgary head office. You will apply chemical engineering expertise to troubleshoot issues, perform technical studies, and maintain critical process documentation.

The role requires 5–7 years of operating plant experience, PE registration or eligibility with APEGA, and familiarity with P&IDs, HAZOP, and hydraulic modeling.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in chemical engineering.
• Professional Engineer with APEGA registration or eligible.
• 5–7 years of operating plant experience, preferably in refinery, pipeline, distribution, or thermal heavy oil operations.
• Experience facilitating risk assessments and hazard and operability studies (HAZOP) is an asset.
• Familiarity with P&IDs, process flow diagrams, and other process-related documentation.
• Knowledge of fluid hydraulic calculations; experience with HYSYS and computer-based hydraulic modeling packages is an asset.
• Knowledge of business drivers for thermal heavy oil operations, including fired heaters, oil separation, and water treatment equipment, is an asset.

Responsibilities

• Support expense projects and process changes, monitor KPIs, and drive corrective actions.
• Conduct technical investigations and root cause analyses and recommend restoration actions.
• Perform studies and calculations to support plant optimization and improved process performance.
• Develop tools to enhance process and equipment monitoring and projections.
• Provide technical support for regulatory reporting, MOC execution, and risk reviews.
• Maintain and develop process engineering documents and tools, including P&IDs and safe operating limits.
