Job summary

J.D. Irving, Limited is seeking a Process Engineering Student for Irving Wallboard in Saint John, NB. This four-to-eight month co‑op offers hands‑on experience in process improvement, data analysis, and technical problem‑solving within a manufacturing setting.

You will work with engineers, production teams, and quality personnel to optimize operations and contribute to continuous improvement while receiving mentorship and housing‑support funding where eligible.

Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s degree program in Chemical, Mechanical, Industrial, or Process Engineering.
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint; experience with data analysis tools is an asset.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Previous co‑op or internship experience in a manufacturing setting is an asset but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in identifying and implementing process improvements to enhance efficiency, quality, and safety.
  • Collect and analyze production data to support root cause analysis and corrective actions.
  • Support trials and experiments on the production floor, including documentation and reporting.
  • Develop and update standard operating procedures (SOPs), work instructions, and process documentation.
  • Participate in cross-functional teams focused on continuous improvement and lean manufacturing.
  • Assist with equipment troubleshooting and process optimization.
  • Contribute to sustainability and waste reduction initiatives.
  • Support KPI reporting by gathering data, updating dashboards, and analyzing trends to drive performance improvements.
  • Present findings and recommendations to engineering and operations teams.
