Process Engineer — Rubber Extrusion & Process Improvement

Job summary

Polymer Extrusions LTD in Oshawa, Ontario is seeking a Process Engineer to join our on-site manufacturing team. This full-time role focuses on tooling control, process optimization, and continuous improvement to ensure quality, efficiency, and safe operations.

You will lead tooling and documentation control for the extrusion department, design dies, process ECRs, and collaborate with production, quality, and sales to meet customer requirements and drive cost reductions.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in mechanical/ manufacturing engineering or equivalent.
• 1-3 years in a manufacturing, production, or process engineering environment.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with high attention to detail.
• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, specifications, and tolerances.
• Strong written communication skills for developing procedural documentation.
• Proven ability to collaborate cross-functionally with production, quality, and sales teams.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word)

Responsibilities

• Lead tooling and documentation control for the extrusion department.
• Modify wire EDM dies to support production requirements and troubleshoot tooling issues.
• Learn to design extrusion dies based on rubber compound, durometer, and profile specifications, under the guidance of the Operations Manager.
• Initiate, evaluate, and process engineering change requests (ECRs).
• Develop procedural documentation for all departments regarding correct operating procedure.
• Complete part/tool drawings utilizing both AutoCAD and SolidWorks, as needed.
• Observe safety and security procedures.
• Collaborate with production, quality, and engineering teams to drive continuous improvement.
• Develop production process improvements to decrease costs, improve labor and equipment utilization, and maximize quality.
• Lead and manage Six Sigma and 5S initiatives; document results upon completion of projects and ensure that process improvements and results are sustained.
• Work with the Quality Department, Sales Department, and Lead Operators on the introduction and qualification of new parts/processes to ensure customer requirements are being met and process efficiency is developed.
• Work with Sales, suppliers, and Lead Operators across all divisions of Polymer Extrusions to order new tools and replace/remake broken or damaged tools.
• Assist with any special projects as necessary, including but not limited to equipment purchases, plant layout, new processes, new jobs, and sales requests
