Job summary

Socket.dev is seeking a Chemical Engineer in Alberta to contribute to the design and optimization of process facilities. You will work with cross-functional teams to develop conceptual and detailed process designs, sizing equipment, and preparing datasheets.

You will use simulation tools like HYSYS and ProMax, participate in P&ID reviews and HAZOPs, and ensure compliance with engineering standards. Strong communication, teamwork, and ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment are

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering required.
  • Registered or eligible for registration with APEGA.
  • Experience with process simulators (HYSYS, ProMax) is beneficial.
  • Ability to apply chemical engineering principles to design of process equipment.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team, with deadlines.
  • Strong verbal, written and graphical communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Liase with other engineering disciplines in proposals and cost estimates.
  • Develop conceptual and detailed process designs with senior engineers.
  • Apply process engineering software to perform simulations.
  • Participate in tendering, equipment specification and selection.
  • Prepare equipment datasheets and specifications.
  • Provide detailed sizing, design, and selection of equipment.
  • Size control valves and PSVs; participate in P&ID reviews and HAZOPs.
  • Contribute to 3D model reviews and flare system design modelling.
  • Assist with control narratives, control schemes and cause-effect design.

Job description

Key Responsibilities:
  • Liase with other engineering disciplines in the preparation and presentation of project proposals and cost estimates.
  • Apply practical knowledge and develop broad based skills while contributing to the overall success of Propak’s operations through interaction with a cross functional team
  • Working with senior engineers, assist in the development of conceptual and detailed process design
  • Apply knowledge of process engineering software to perform process simulations
  • Take part in tendering, specifying, and selection of major equipment
  • Evaluate client Request for Proposal Documents and complete process selection.
  • Create process flowsheet & P&ID
  • Development of equipment and instrumentation requirements
  • Prepare equipment datasheet and specifications
  • Provide detailed equipment sizing, design, selection, and specification
  • Responsible for control valve and PSV sizing
  • Participate in P&ID reviews, and HAZOPs
  • Participate in 3D model reviews
  • Apply technical knowledge to flare system design and modelling
  • Assist with control narrative and control scheme development
  • Assist with cause and effect design development
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical Engineering from an accredited university
  • Registered or eligible for registration with APEGA
  • Experience working with simulators, HYSIS, ProMax, and heat exchanger engineering software would be beneficial
  • Competent in applying principles Chemical Engineering to specifications and design of process equipment
