Process Engineer II (Food & Beverage Industry)

Job Summary

Dennis Group’s Process Engineers play a vital role in designing and constructing food and beverage processing facilities. They work across all project phases—controls, packaging, mechanical, electrical, building systems, architecture, etc.—from conceptualization through design, construction, and commissioning. Their expertise in flow diagrams, piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&ID), layouts, and start-up processes helps improve operational efficiencies for clients' processing plants.

Responsibilities
  • Develop process design basis and select unit operations
  • Develop operational specifications
  • Coordinate with project disciplines (engineers, designers, architects, etc.)
  • Prepare process flow and P&ID diagrams
  • Create process flow diagrams
  • Prepare mass and energy balances
  • Size and specify process and utility equipment
  • Procure equipment and evaluate bids
  • Assist in project scope, budget, and schedule development
  • Coordinate schedules and work of contractors for equipment installation
  • Prepare subcontractor scope of work
  • Develop cost estimates and proposals with clients, vendors, and suppliers
  • Write proposals, negotiate agreements, and troubleshoot client issues
  • Update drawings and verify corrections
  • Compile information for client presentations and contract administration
  • Lead process engineering on specific projects and serve as main client contact
  • Specify equipment performance requirements
  • Collaborate on system specifications with project teams
  • Develop P&ID and layout drawings
  • Oversee equipment installations and provide start-up support
  • Conduct onsite audits and research best practices
  • Support talent development and mentoring within the team
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in chemical or process engineering
  • 4-7 years of experience in process design for food and beverage facilities
  • Experience with process flow diagrams and P&IDs
  • Experience sizing and specifying process and utility equipment
  • Experience developing project scope, budgets, and schedules
  • Knowledge of food safety and sanitary design principles
  • Proficiency with MS Office, MS Project, AutoCAD
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Willingness to travel 30-50% for site visits and project coordination
Physical & Travel Requirements
  • Sitting at a desk and working on a computer for prolonged periods
  • Lifting up to 15 pounds occasionally
  • Travel up to 50% to project sites and offices
