Job summary

Government of Newfoundland and Labrador is seeking a Privacy Coordinator to lead privacy initiatives across departments, building and implementing privacy management frameworks and ensuring ATIPPA compliance. Qualifications

We’re looking for a bold and driven Privacy Coordinator to lead the charge in protecting the personal information of citizens and ensuring our government remains a trusted steward of data. In this pivotal role, you’ll shape and implement forward-thinking privacy initiatives—such as privacy management programs, privacy impact assessments for new technologies, programs and services, data minimization strategies, secure data-sharing frameworks, and public education campaigns on privacy rights. As a Privacy Coordinator, you will lead privacy initiatives within assigned client departments to protect personal information. This includes developing and implementing privacy management frameworks, ensuring compliance with the Access to Information and Protection of Privacy Act, 2015 (ATIPPA, 2015), and evaluating privacy programs to strengthen the safeguarding of personal information. Your responsibilities will include:

• Working with assigned client departments to review and assess the maturity of existing privacy programs.
• Reviewing and developing departmental privacy policies and providing guidance on their implementation.
• Developing compliance monitoring approaches and processes for departments.
• Developing and implementing privacy breach protocols tailored to departmental needs.
• Developing and delivering privacy training for departmental staff.
• Working with departments to complete personal information inventories and establish personal information banks.
• Assisting departments in the development, implementation, and ongoing maintenance of privacy management programs.

Screening Criteria

• Bachelor’s degree in business, law, information management education or other related field (equivalencies will be considered)
• Experience with privacy assessment, risk analysis, compliance, mitigation strategies and/or management.
• University of Alberta’s Information Access and Protection of Privacy certificate, and/or Certification Information Privacy Professional certification (through the International Association of Privacy Professionals – IAPP) (asset)

Assessment Criteria

• Knowledge of privacy principles, data protection, risk assessments, privacy management frameworks, and the interpretation of legislation
• Knowledge of ATIPPA, 2015, the regulations and cost schedule and other privacy legislation (asset)
• Negotiation, mediation, and conflict resolution skills
• Ability to analyze and translate complex legislation and policy into plain language
• Ability to think critically and make decisions
• Ability to effectively exchange information
• Ability to establish and maintain effective stakeholder relationships
