Job summary

Tempo Flexible Packaging in Ontario is seeking a Press Assistant to support our flexographic printing operations. You will review the press schedule, select films, verify color and quality, and manage inks and solvents. The role requires teamwork to meet daily targets and ensure safety and clean workspace.

You will work 12‑hour shifts, 3 days per week, with rotating days/nights. The role offers paid breaks, benefits, and overtime eligibility, with a pay range of $20–$22 per hour.

Qualifications

• Grade 12 education or equivalent preferred.
• Basic mechanical skills.
• Basic knowledge of math and units of measurement.
• Superior time management skills and excellent organization skills.

Responsibilities

• Review the press schedule to retrieve dockets, artwork, and sleeves from the Mounting department.
• Determine film type, width, gauge and unwind for each roll, and verify quality and orientation before loading into machinery.
• Ensure color standards are met through anilox verification and replenishment; manage inks and solvents as needed.
• Maintain housekeeping and cleanliness of press equipment and work area; rebuild doctor blades when required.
• Work as a team to meet shift targets, uphold safety, and support Tempo’s core values.

About The Role:

What You'll Do:

• Review the press schedule to retrieve all necessary dockets, artwork, and sleeves from the Mounting department.
• Determine the correct film type, width, gauge and unwind for each roll, while checking material for quality standards and orientation before loading into machinery.
• Confirm sludge tanks have room for wash‑ups, solvents are filled to appropriate levels, and collecting set‑up rolls.
• Ensure color standards are met through anilox verification and replenishment.
• Retrieving all necessary inks and solvents for current and upcoming orders. Assist in the calibration of the anilox rollers and viscosities of inks to maintain colours.
• Return all used inks to proper location as well as dispensing any required ink from the dispenser.
• Acquire the correct sleeves, rollers, anilox and carriers for current and upcoming orders.
• Maintain a high level of housekeeping and cleanliness standards by cleaning anilox rollers, ink splashes, sleeves, racking, ink trays, and other applicable units when necessary
• Rebuild doctor blades, when necessary, accurately track all changes made of chamber and blade changes on assigned press.
• Daily completion of the Press Assistant Checklist.
• Protect the health and safety of yourself and others by performing safety circle checks on equipment, creating work orders to repair damaged equipment, and keeping common workstations and areas clean.
• Work as a team to overcome shift obstacles, exceed daily department targets and celebrate team successes.
• Promote Tempo’s core values by working within all company policies and procedures.
• Other duties as required by the Printing Operations Supervisor or Manager.

Schedule

Our Flex‑Life Schedule is designed to give you more time off, without sacrificing full‑time pay.

• 12-hour shifts, 3 days per week
• Rotating every 2 weeks days and nights (7:00am to 7:00pm AND 7:00pm to 7:00am)
• Work 36 hours per week, be eligible to be paid for 40 hours
• 16 days off a month!

Compensation

• $20-22/hour

• Experience in the flexographic printing industry would be an asset
• Must be able to reliably commute to work – own transportation required.
