Job summary

Workday, Inc. is seeking a Principal or Senior Software Development Engineer to lead the AI Model Serving platform. You will shape the vision, drive architecture decisions, and guide a team delivering scalable ML model serving and a production model registry.

This role offers collaboration with ML engineers, data scientists, and PMs, with high-impact outcomes across production workloads on Bedrock/GCP, and opportunities to mentor, grow, and influence company AI strategy.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of experience building and operating large-scale distributed systems.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field (or equivalent practical experience).
• Deep experience designing, building, and scaling production-grade distributed systems.
• Proficiency in Python and production-quality code.
• Familiarity with both LLMs and traditional ML models and their production usage.
• Excellent written and verbal communication, with ability to write design docs and build consensus.
• Collaborative engineering approach with mentoring experience and influencing product direction.

Responsibilities

• Lead the team technically by making critical design decisions that drive performance, reliability, and scalability across the platform.
• Design, implement, and maintain large-scale systems that enable moving ML models to production.
• Write design documents to build consensus for new system components and enhancements.
• Evaluate and uptake new technologies within Workday and the broader industry.
• Troubleshoot, improve, and scale CI pipelines.
• Develop relationships with software engineers, ML engineers, and data scientists on partner teams.
• Respond to alerts and debug production issues to maintain platform health and reliability.
• Review pull requests and enforce quality, performance, readability, and security.
• Develop documentation to share knowledge with other engineers.
