Job summary

System One is seeking a Principal Project Planner in Toronto, ON, a direct hire with hybrid onsite/remote work. Compensation ranges from CAD 112,000 to CAD 168,000 annually.

Responsibilities include building master schedules, defining WBS, coordinating with leaders and subcontractors, and delivering detailed project plans and control reports. Requires extensive planning experience on large infrastructure projects and strong stakeholder communication.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 10–15 years of project planning experience, with 3–5 years on large infrastructure construction projects.
  • Expert level skills using Primavera P6.
  • Strong ability to analyze dependency logic and project critical path.
  • Deep knowledge of methodologies, governance, and delivery for large-scale infra projects.
  • Excellent communication and influencing skills with stakeholders.
  • Solid understanding of project management techniques and scheduling.
  • Highly motivated and adaptable to time-sensitive environments.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and handle pressure.
  • Ability to present information to managers, employees, and clients.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and align Master Schedule with customer milestones and management deadlines.
  • Support scope analysis, WBS definition, and project execution plans.
  • Collaborate with leaders and third parties to plan activities and deliverables.
  • Monitor progress to ensure contract and schedule compliance.
  • Plan day-by-day construction and commissioning work.
  • Produce project control reports, including time and budget variations.
  • Support economical monitoring of the project through project controls.
  • Ensure integrated planning processes and standards are implemented.
  • Maintain project planner budget and EV analysis, risk analysis, and reporting.
  • Attend meetings with customers and subcontractors to represent company interests.
  • Participate in Change Order Management.

Job Title: Principal Project Planner
Location: Toronto, ON
Type: Direct Hire
Compensation: $112,000.00 - $168,000.00 CAD
Work Model: Hybrid – Onsite and Remote

Responsibilities
  • Ensure the development of Project Master Schedule and project detailed scheduled aligned with the milestones fixed by the customer and/or management expectations on deliveries.
  • Support project team in the analysis of the scope of the work, definition of the work breakdown structure, implementing and optimizing project execution plans.
  • Work with company leaders and third parties to produce detailed plans for the project activities and all planned deliverables. Monitor work in progress to ensure that work is executed in compliance with the requirements of the contract and schedule.
  • Plan the construction and commissioning work on day-by-day basis.
  • Producing project control reports including variation reports regarding time and budget as required by the Project Director.
  • Support Project Controlling for the economical monitoring of the project.
  • Ensure the implementation of integrated Planning processes and standards.
  • Ensure the development and maintenance of project planner budget.
  • Ensure the project EV analysis, Risk Analysis and reporting.
  • Guarantee the reliability and on-time availability of project reporting.
  • As the Lead Planner, attend meetings with the customer and subcontractors regarding scheduling and project issues, ensuring that company interests are fully represented.
  • Participate in the Change Order Management process.
Requirements
  • Minimum of 10 - 15 years of relevant project planning experience with at least 3-5 years of experience with large infrastructure construction projects, preferably rail transit projects.
  • Expert level skills with using Primavera P6.
  • Strong ability to understand and analyze dependency logic and project critical path.
  • Expert knowledge of the methodologies, governance frameworks, and delivery processes required for the successful execution of large-scale infrastructure projects from design, through construction to final commissioning and handover.
  • Excellent communication and influencing skills in liaising with project stakeholders in the development of project schedules, while identifying milestones and critical paths.
  • Excellent understanding of project management techniques, in addition to effective planning and scheduling skills.
  • Highly motivated and adaptable to a time-sensitive environment in order to respond quickly and effectively to unanticipated high workloads, events and emergencies.
  • Must be able to meet deadlines and effectively handle pressures associated with this role.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, employees, project constituents, third parties, and the general public.
