Job description

Working with the AVP Pricing, North America, this role will be responsible for actuarial pricing for retrocession pools and large block reinsurance transactions written by the Protection Line of Business in North America.

The role will focus on pricing and risk assessment for large block deals within the U.S. market, specifically for Term, Whole Life (WL), and Universal Life (UL) products, while also considering Long-Term Care (LTC) as a potential future opportunity. This includes evaluating and structuring transactions, conducting experience analysis, and developing assumptions for mortality, morbidity, and lapse risks.

The Pricing Manager will also assist the AVP in managing ongoing pricing projects and initiatives, including maintaining pricing models, developing innovative methodologies, and supporting internal risk management functions. Other responsibilities may include supporting global pricing teams and contributing to the continuous improvement of pricing processes and frameworks.

Pricing Manager Responsibilities
  1. Leads detailed assessment of U.S. reinsurance block or flow opportunities from both a pricing and risk perspective, considering business strategy and financial impact.
  2. Manages pricing projects and quotes with minimal support from senior actuarial colleagues.
  3. Independently develops pricing assumptions for new opportunities, including mortality, lapse, and expense assumptions, applying expert judgment where necessary.
  4. Challenges assumptions and perform peer reviews within pricing and across other teams (e.g., Business Development, Underwriting, Risk Management, R&D) and facilitates discussions to align perspectives.
  5. Supports business development in maintaining strong relationships with clients and promoting PLRe NA’s brand in the market.
  6. Provides leadership and mentorship within the pricing team, fostering technical development for junior team members.
  7. Ensures effective stakeholder management during the quote process by clearly communicating pricing outcomes, balancing technical and commercial considerations.
  8. Maintains a deep understanding of the U.S. reinsurance market and the risks associated with large block transactions.
  9. Responsible for pricing retrocession new business in North America.
Qualifications & Experience
  1. Prior experience in reinsurance or direct insurance pricing, with a focus on large block transactions.
  2. Strong understanding of actuarial principles, risk assessment, and financial structuring of reinsurance deals.
  3. Excellent technical, analytical, and communication skills.
  4. Strong organizational and time management skills.
  5. Innovative mindset with a focus on continuous improvement.
  6. Proactive, self-motivated, and able to work independently.
  7. Experience in the U.S. individual life and annuity markets, including development of mortality and lapse assumptions.
  8. Familiarity with pricing and financial modeling techniques for reinsurance transactions.
  9. Proficiency in actuarial modelling software (e.g Axis, Tyche, Prophet) and data analytics tools (e.g., SQL, Python, R, Tableau, Excel/VBA).
  10. Strong mentoring skills to develop and train junior team members.
