Job summary

City of Surrey is seeking a Preschool Music Instructor to lead engaging family music classes for infants, toddlers and preschoolers at multiple Surrey sites, guiding caregivers and children through creative learning in a warm, inclusive environment.

Candidates should hold a degree or diploma in music, a minimum of two years’ teaching experience, and RCMT Level 10 certification; CPR-C/First Aid is required. A BC driver’s license is an asset. Hourly rate listed at CAD 37.18.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Develop and deliver age-appropriate family music programs for children from 3 months to 5 years of age.
• Lead interactive activities including songs, musical rhymes, movement-based learning, and creative musical play.
• Create a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment for young children and their caregivers.
• Prepare and submit lesson plans ad supply lists or programs.
• Independently set up, maintain, and clean up program spaces and equipment.
• Incorporate a variety of instruments, musical styles, and sensory-based activities into lessons.
• Foster positive relationships with participants, caregivers, and staff.

SCOPE

Join the City of Surrey’s Culture division and help enrich our community through high-quality performing arts programs. We are seeking an enthusiastic and creative Preschool Music Instructor to lead engaging group music classes for infants, toddlers, and preschool-aged children at a variety of sites within Surrey. This is an exciting opportunity for a skilled music educator who enjoys working with young children and their caregivers in a community-based setting.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Develop and deliver age-appropriate family music programs for children from 3 months to 5 years of age.
• Lead interactive activities including songs, musical rhymes, movement-based learning, and creative musical play.
• Create a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment for young children and their caregivers.
• Prepare and submit lesson plans ad supply lists or programs.
• Independently set up, maintain, and clean up program spaces and equipment.
• Incorporate a variety of instruments, musical styles, and sensory-based activities into lessons.

Required skills include:

• Ability to lead group music classes with accompaniment on a musical instrument (piano, guitar, or ukulele preferred).
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage both children and adults.
• Excellent organizational and problem-solving abilities.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
• Knowledge of the principles of early childhood music education and development, and the ability to apply those in a structured classroom environment.

QUALIFICATIONS

We’re looking for dynamic, creative leaders with demonstrated knowledge and experience in the performing arts. Our ideal candidates are effective communicators with strong classroom management skills.

The successful candidate must have:

• Degree or Diploma in Music performance or a related field.
• Minimum two years’ experience teaching music and a thorough understanding of music pedagogy.
• Certified RCM Instructor, having completed minimum Level 10 RCM education.
• Current Emergency First Aid with CPR-C certificate.
• A Valid BC Driver’s License is an asset.
