Job summary

ATCO Electric in Hanna, AB is seeking a Powerline Technician – Service to maintain and construct transmission and distribution lines, ensuring reliable service to communities. You’ll work on energized systems, perform preventive maintenance, and assist in developing PLT Apprentices and new staff.

The role supports outages response, safety compliance, and collaboration across the team, including stand-by duties at times. Residency near Hanna, AB or Oyen, AB is expected.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Journeyperson Powerline Technician Certificate required.
• Interprovincial Red Seal eligibility preferred.
• Valid Class 5 license; Class 1 or 3 eligibility preferred.
• First Aid Certificate required.
• Live line techniques training (25kV) preferred.
• Strong safety record and on-call readiness.

Responsibilities

• Construct, operate, inspect, and maintain overhead and underground power lines and substations.
• Install and maintain street lighting and electrical apparatus.
• Perform live-line work and switch systems per standards and permits.
• Complete planned maintenance, inspections, and fault troubleshooting.
• Assist in installation, commissioning, and maintenance of equipment and new projects.
• Participate in standby rotations and respond to outages and emergencies.
• Mentor apprentices and contribute to team development.
