- The candidate must accept and contribute to a strong safety culture, as the role involves regular exposure to electrical hazards, driving, and working alone.

- The candidate must have superior oral and written communication skills for communicating with customers, writing distribution standards, and representing BC Hydro on R&D and standards development committees.
- The candidate is required to build and maintain effective working relationships with customers and technical stakeholders including consultants, planners, and engineers.
- The candidate must have strong attention to detail for gathering and analyzing system data from numerous sources.
- The candidate must have a working knowledge of PQView software for management and analysis of power system data.
- The candidate must have an interest in learning or possess skills in server management, database administration, website development, and programming including MS SQL, Python, VBA, HTML, and PHP.
- The candidate must have a strong interest in problem solving.
- The candidate must have excellent organizational and planning skills for managing numerous investigations and projects concurrently.
- The candidate must hold a degree in Electrical Engineering recognized by Canadian universities.
- The candidate must be registered, or eligible for immediate registration, as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in British Columbia with EGBC.
- The candidate must have 4+ years of relevant engineering experience.
- The candidate must have superior computer skills, including Microsoft Office, PQView, MS SQL Management Studio, CYMDIST, and EMTP-RV.
- The candidate must be able to analyze, interpret, and evaluate complex technical studies and power system data.
- The candidate must be able to analyze and resolve challenging and unusual engineering problems with considerable independence.
- The candidate must demonstrate technical writing and presentation skills, along with excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- The candidate must have fully developed or developing technical knowledge in electric utility engineering disciplines, with a minimum of 2 years of utility experience.
- The candidate should have experience conducting power quality investigations, which is an asset.
- Experience working with IEC/CSA electromagnetic compatibility standards is an asset.
- The candidate should have working knowledge of PQView, which is an asset.
- Experience with power system simulation software such as CYMDIST and EMTP-RV is an asset.
- Experience in computer programming such as MS SQL, Python, VBA, HTML, and PHP is an asset.
- Understanding of technical principles relating to the theory of electrical metering is an asset.
- The candidate should have knowledge of antenna theory for RF disturbance detection, which is an asset.
- The candidate should have knowledge of BC Hydro systems, policies, and procedures, which is an asset.
