Job Location: Revelstoke and Northern BC

Employment type: Permanent

Hours of work: Full-time (37.5 hrs/week)

No. of positions: 2

BC Hydro is looking for two (2) experienced Electrical Site Engineers – one based in Revelstoke Generating Station, and one based in Northern BC – to support major construction projects and ensure electrical systems are constructed and commissioned safely, correctly, and to the highest engineering standards. If you are a self-starter who thrives in the field, enjoys working on large and complex construction projects, and takes pride in seeing designs successfully brought to life, we invite you to join our Site Engineering team.

The projects that you will be working on support economic growth, decarbonization, and development across mining, LNG, manufacturing, and technology sectors. Delivered in partnership with First Nations and the Province of B.C., they represent critical infrastructure for Canada’s future. In this role, success means safe execution, well-coordinated construction and commissioning activities, strong relationships with contractors and designers, and electrical systems are brought online smoothly and reliably. Joining this team means contributing directly to projects that strengthen communities, enable industry, and shape B.C.’s energy future.

What you'll do
  • Lead field engineering, construction oversight, testing, commissioning, energization and turnover activities for electrical and protection & control (P&C) systems on major BC Hydro capital projects.
  • Lead or oversee construction and commissioning activities to ensure systems are delivered in conformance with contract scope, technical specifications, engineering design intent and issued-for-construction drawings. You ensure testing and inspections are planned, witnessed, documented and completed in accordance with approved procedures.
  • Provide technical leadership for switchgear, transformers, circuit breakers, reactive equipment, protection systems, generator and turbine controls, communications networks, instrumentation, auxiliary systems, station and water conveyance control systems.
  • Develop, review, or recommend: commissioning plans, commissioning procedures, energization plans, isolation plans, inspection and test plans, system completion strategies and turnover documentation.
  • Coordinate construction, commissioning and outage activities with contractors, OEMs, construction management, design engineering, operations and maintenance personnel. You lead the transition from construction to commissioning and from commissioning to operations.
  • Review vendor inspection and test procedures (ITPs), commissioning packages, test reports and technical submissions for technical and contractual compliance.
  • Witness, direct and accept testing activities and review commissioning results to verify equipment performance, functionality, reliability and safety.
  • Perform field reviews and first level quality assurance activities to verify compliance with drawings, specifications, standards, contracts and engineering requirements.
  • Act as the engineering lead in resolving field non-conformances, RFIs, deficiencies, design issues and commissioning challenges by bringing together design engineers, construction teams, and contractors to achieve timely, practical, and technically sound solutions
  • Maintain commissioning records, ITPs, field review reports, punch lists, red-line drawings, completion dossiers and document management systems.
  • Develop fit-for-service and system completion recommendations supporting the safe handover of assets to BC Hydro Operations.
  • Identify, evaluate and mitigate commissioning, construction, operational and in-service risks.
  • Support environmental, safety and health planning and provide visible safety leadership for project teams.
  • Mentor engineers and technical staff and support development of engineering capability across project teams.
  • Plan and implement compliance activities associated with applicable MRS, NERC and utility reliability requirements.
What you bring
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering recognized by Canadian Universities.
  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation with Engineers and Geoscientists BC (EGBC), or eligibility for immediate registration.
  • Minimum eight (8) years of progressive experience in electrical engineering, construction, testing and commissioning environments, preferably within utilities, generation, transmission or high-voltage infrastructure.
  • Experience or knowledge in the following areas:
    • - Substation and generating station equipment design, construction, testing, and commissioning.
    • - Commissioning and testing of high voltage electrical equipment.
  • Demonstrated experience leading or coordinating multidisciplinary engineering, construction and commissioning teams.
  • Strong planning, organization, communication, presentation, technical writing and stakeholder management skills.
  • The ability to independently analyze and resolve challenging and non-routine engineering problems while understanding the impacts on cost, constructability, operability, safety, and schedule.
  • Knowledge of engineering governance requirements, documentation controls and professional practice obligations.
  • Experience with commissioning documentation, quality management systems, punch lists and turnover processes.
