Job summary

BC Hydro in Surrey, BC, is hiring for a Power Line Technician Pre-Apprentice. This full-time role starts at 37.5 hours per week with an hourly wage of $36.81.

You will work outdoors with a tradesperson crew, learn climbing, safety procedures and bucket truck operation, and may be required to move within the province for program placements. A strong work ethic and color vision are essential.

Qualifications

• High school graduation with English 12, Math 11 and Physics 11.
• Valid BC Class 5 driver's license with air brake endorsement.
• Physically capable of performing the work with normal colour vision.
• Strong interpersonal skills to deal with internal and external customers.
• Demonstrated mechanical aptitude through construction experience or exposure to trades.
• Applicants must meet requirements by the posting close date.

Responsibilities

• Act as a driver/ground person and may operate a Line Truck during construction, maintenance and operations.
• Assist in handling and transportation of equipment and materials with the crew.
• Learn basic climbing skills, safety procedures and bucket truck operation.
• Work outdoors in all weather at heights of 30–400 ft.
