Job summary

FortisBC is seeking a Powerline Technician to join our team in British Columbia. The role reports to a supervisor and involves field transmission work, standby duties, and training responsibilities for new staff.

Must hold a Journeyman Powerline Technician Interprovincial Certificate or Lineman Trades Certification, and a valid Class 3 license with air brake endorsement. Overtime and travel may be required.

Qualifications

  • Journeyman Powerline Technician Interprovincial Certificate or Lineman Trades Qualification Certificate.
  • Familiar with electric utility transmission and distribution systems and safety devices.
  • Valid Class 3 driver’s licence with air brake endorsement.

Responsibilities

  • Perform standby duties as assigned.
  • Assist in training new employees, apprentices and lower classifications.
  • Carry out duties typically performed by a lower classification.

Position Overview

A Powerline Technician is expected to discharge the responsibility of and to practice fully his/her trades qualifications.

A Powerline Technician reports to a staff supervisor or delegate.

Responsibilities
  • Perform standby duties as assigned.
  • Assist in training new employees, apprentices and employees in lower classifications.
  • Perform duties normally carried out by a lower classification.
Requirements
  • Holder of a Journeyman Powerline Technician Interprovincial Certificate or a Lineman Trades Qualification Certificate.
  • Be familiar with and experienced in electric utility transmission and distribution systems, protective and safety devices and their clearances and isolating procedures.
  • Holder of a valid Class 3 driver’s licence with air brake endorsement
