Job summary

GreenFirst Forest Products in Chapleau, Ontario is seeking a Power Engineer to operate and maintain our steam plant and cogeneration systems. You will ensure safe, reliable operation and maintain accurate shift logs.

We require a minimum 3rd Class Power Engineer certification, strong math and communication skills, and the ability to work in confined spaces with PPE. Starting hourly wages are posted for 3rd and 4th class certifications.

Responsibilities

• Maintain shift log entries for each shift.
• Operate steam plant systems and boiler safety equipment.
• Monitor equipment such as pumps and motors in the Steam Plant.
• Perform start-up/shut down, drainage and lock-out of cogeneration equipment.
• Wear PPE in hot and hazardous environments.
• Assist with other duties as assigned.

Job description

Position: Power Engineer
Location: Chapleau, ON

Responsibilities:

• Maintain shift log entries during each shift to ensure full awareness of any outstanding issues that may require special attention during the shift.
• Support the operation of steam, condensate, water treatment, wastewater, boiler chemistry systems, and boiler safety equipment.
• Monitor equipment (pumps, conveyors, motors) on all levels of the Steam Plant, while ensuring equipment maintenance, i.e., greasing when needed.
• Ability to operate: fuel handling, loader, and Diesel Boiler
• Record operational problems in the Operator’s logbook.
• Ability to operate fuel biomass and ash-handling equipment.
• Understand compressed air/ cooling/ utility/ fire water systems.
• Comfortable working in confined spaces and at heights.
• Support and assist with any other duties as assigned.
• Understands/ performs start-up/ shut down, drain, and lock-out of Cogeneration equipment and systems.
• Other related duties as assigned.

Requirements:

• Minimum valid 3rd Class Power Engineer Certification.
• Requires considerable sensory attention and Regulatory Responsibility.
• Requires excellent mathematical skills, verbal communication skills, and mental reasoning skills.
• Wear appropriate PPE as required to work in hot, dirty, and chemically hazardous environments.

Starting Salary for a 3rd Class Power Engineer is: $39.16 per hour.
Starting Salary for a 4th Class Power Engineer is: $37.30 per hour.
