Job summary

GreenFirst Forest Products Inc. in Chapleau, ON seeks a Power Engineer to support cogeneration operations and assist the Shift Engineer with steam and power plant systems. The role involves startup/shutdown, ongoing monitoring, maintenance, and safety compliance in a live industrial setting.

Minimum 3rd Class certification is required, with a 4th Class certification also considered. Starting hourly wages are $39.16 for 3rd Class and $37.30 for 4th Class, with equal opportunity and accommodations

Qualifications

• Minimum valid 3rd Class Power Engineer Certification.
• Regulatory responsibility and attention to detail are required.
• Strong math, verbal communication, and logical reasoning skills.
• Personal protective equipment (PPE) must be worn in hot, dirty, and chemically hazardous environments.

Responsibilities

• Maintain shift log entries to ensure awareness of outstanding issues.
• Support operation of steam, condensate, water treatment, wastewater, boiler chemistry systems and boiler safety equipment.
• Monitor pumps, conveyors and motors across the steam plant and perform maintenance like greasing as needed.
• Operate fuel handling, loader and diesel boiler equipment.
• Record operational problems in the logbook and manage fuel biomass and ash handling systems.
• Understand compressed air, cooling, utility, and fire water systems.
• Work safely in confined spaces and at heights; perform startup/shutdown, drain and lock-out procedures.
• Assist with other duties as assigned.

Power Engineer

GreenFirst is looking for a Power Engineer to support the Cogeneration Operation and assist the Shift Engineer with the operation of the plant’s systems for the production of steam and power.

Responsibilities

• Maintain shift log entries during each shift to ensure full awareness of any outstanding issues that may require special attention during the shift.
• Support the operation of steam, condensate, water treatment, wastewater, boiler chemistry systems, and boiler safety equipment.
• Monitor equipment (pumps, conveyors, motors) on all levels of the Steam Plant, while ensuring equipment maintenance, i.e., greasing when needed.
• Ability to operate: fuel handling, loader, and Diesel Boiler
• Record operational problems in the Operator’s logbook.
• Ability to operate fuel biomass and ash-handling equipment.
• Understand compressed air/ cooling/ utility/ fire water systems.
• Comfortable working in confined spaces and at heights.
• Support and assist with any other duties as assigned.
• Understands/ performs start-up/ shut down, drain, and lock-out of Cogeneration equipment and systems.
• Other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Minimum valid 3rd Class Power Engineer Certification.
• Requires considerable sensory attention and Regulatory Responsibility.
• Requires excellent mathematical skills, verbal communication skills, and mental reasoning skills.
• Wear appropriate PPE as required to work in hot, dirty, and chemically hazardous environments.

Starting Salary for a 3rd Class Power Engineer is: $39.16 per hour.

Starting Salary for a 4th Class Power Engineer is: $37.30 per hour.
