Job summary

Responsibilities

• Maintain shift log entries to track issues during the shift.
• Support the operation of steam, condensate, water treatment, wastewater, boiler chemistry systems, and boiler safety equipment.
• Monitor equipment (pumps, conveyors, motors) across the Steam Plant and perform maintenance as needed.
• Operate fuel handling, loader, and Diesel Boiler.
• Record operational problems in the Operator’s logbook.
• Operate fuel biomass and ash-handling equipment.
• Understand compressed air, cooling, utility, and fire water systems.
• Work in confined spaces and at heights.
• Support and assist with other duties as assigned.
• Start-up/shut down, drain, and lock-out of Cogeneration equipment and systems.

Position: Power Engineer (3rd & 4th Class)

Location: Chapleau, ON

GreenFirst is looking for a Power Engineer to support the Cogeneration Operation and assist the Shift Engineer with the operation of the plant’s systems for the production of steam and power.

Responsibilities

• Maintain shift log entries during each shift to ensure full awareness of any outstanding issues that may require special attention during the shift.


• Support the operation of steam, condensate, water treatment, wastewater, boiler chemistry systems, and boiler safety equipment.


• Monitor equipment (pumps, conveyors, motors) on all levels of the Steam Plant, while ensuring equipment maintenance, i.e., greasing when needed.


• Ability to operate: fuel handling, loader, and Diesel Boiler


• Record operational problems in the Operator’s logbook.


• Ability to operate fuel biomass and ash-handling equipment.


• Understand compressed air/ cooling/ utility/ fire water systems.


• Comfortable working in confined spaces and at heights.


• Support and assist with any other duties as assigned.


• Understands/ performs start-up/ shut down, drain, and lock-out of Cogeneration equipment and systems.

Requirements

• Minimum valid 4th Class Power Engineer Certification with a commitment to attain 3rd/ 2nd Class Certification.


• Requires considerable sensory attention and Regulatory Responsibility.


• Requires excellent mathematical skills, verbal communication skills, and mental reasoning skills.


• Wear appropriate PPE as required to work in hot, dirty, and chemically hazardous environments.

Starting Salary for a 3rd Class Power Engineer is: $39.16 per hour.

Starting Salary for a 4th Class Power Engineer is: $37.30 per hour.
