Job summary

GreenFirst Forest Products in Chapleau, ON seeks a Power Engineer (3rd & 4th Class) to support cogeneration operations and assist the Shift Engineer in running steam and power systems.

The role requires a minimum 4th Class Power Engineer Certification with a plan to attain 3rd/2nd Class, and offers beginning wages of $37.30–$39.16 per hour, depending on class. Work includes boiler chemistry, pumps, conveyors, and safety systems within a demanding industrial environment.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 4th Class Power Engineer Certification with commitment to attain 3rd/2nd Class.
  • Requires considerable sensory attention and regulatory responsibility.
  • Excellent mathematical skills, verbal communication skills, and mental reasoning skills.
  • Wear appropriate PPE as required to work in hot, dirty, and chemically hazardous environments.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain shift log entries during each shift to ensure full awareness of any outstanding issues that may require special attention during the shift.
  • Support the operation of steam, condensate, water treatment, wastewater, boiler chemistry systems, and boiler safety equipment.
  • Monitor equipment (pumps, conveyors, motors) on all levels of the Steam Plant, while ensuring equipment maintenance, i.e., greasing when needed.
  • Operate fuel handling, loader, Diesel Boiler, fuel biomass and ash‑handling equipment.
  • Record operational problems in the Operator’s logbook.
  • Understand compressed air, cooling, utility, fire water systems.
  • Comfortable working in confined spaces and at heights.
  • Support and assist with any other duties as assigned.
  • Performs start‑up, shutdown, drain, and lock‑out of Cogeneration equipment and systems.

Position: Power Engineer (3rd & 4th Class)

Location: Chapleau, ON

GreenFirst is looking for a Power Engineer to support the Cogeneration Operation and assist the Shift Engineer with the operation of the plant’s systems for the production of steam and power.
