The Department of Community Health Sciences in the Cumming School of Medicine at the University of Calgary is accepting applications for a Postdoctoral Scholar in Interventions and Data Science on Cancer and Chronic Disease.
Job Description:
The University of Calgary is accepting applications for a Postdoctoral Scholar position in Preventive Health Interventions and Data Science on Cancer and Chronic Disease, to be based in Calgary, Alberta. Candidates will have the opportunity for first-hand experience with research initiatives directly related to the key focus areas. The successful candidate will support The Integrating Prevention into Connect Care for Health (IPiC-Health) research project, which aims to integrate Screening, Brief Intervention and Referral (SBIR) within Connect Care-facilitated clinical workflows in ambulatory and inpatient settings, to identify and address tobacco use, alcohol use, and physical inactivity and to demonstrate the feasibility, acceptability and impact of SBIR. Additionally, the candidate will contribute to other health care intervention and data science projects pertaining to cancer and chronic diseases in relation to the IPiC-Health initiative.
The postdoctoral scholar will work under the co-supervision of Dr. Kamala Adhikari Dahal and Dr. Gary Teare. Drs. Adhikari and Teare are epidemiologists and population health services researchers by background. They are Senior Scientist and Scientific Director, respectively, in the Cancer Prevention and Screening Innovation team (within the Public Health Evidence and Innovation Division of Provincial Population and Public Health, Alberta Health Services). They are also both Adjunct Assistant Professors in the Department of Community Health Sciences at the University of Calgary.
We offer close mentorship, opportunities to contribute to a wide variety of research projects in cancer and chronic disease prevention and screening, and a collegial and supportive working environment. The expectation is for recruited Scholar to apply for external fellowship funding support at the university, provincial and national levels. This Postdoctoral Scholarship will mentor emerging research leaders in data science.
