Company Description

CAWST is a Canadian charity and licensed engineering consultancy, where we teach people how to bring safe drinking water, sanitation, and hygiene to their communities using simple, affordable technologies.

At the heart of everything we do is our belief that when people have their basic water and sanitation needs met, they have the opportunity to succeed. This is what drives our dedicated team to work with a global network of more than 1,500 clients and partners. Together, we have reached over 50 million people since our inception in 2001.

Collectively, we are making a difference at a scale beyond what any of us could do individually. But our job isn’t done yet and we need you to help us expand our reach.

Job Description

We are seeking a meticulous and proactive Prospect Research Officer to enhance our fundraising efforts by identifying and analyzing potential donors, partners, and funding opportunities. Your expertise will directly support CAWST’s mission to reach 100 million people with clean water, sanitation, and hygiene by 2030.

This position is one of three new roles we’re currently hiring to build CAWST’s fund development team in support of our 2030 campaign and beyond. Alongside this role, we are also recruiting a Stewardship Officer and a Senior Development Officer (GTA market focus). Each role brings a distinct focus to a collaborative new team designed to grow and strengthen CAWST’s philanthropic partnerships.

Key Responsibilities

Prospect Research & Prospect Identification

  • Conduct detailed research on individuals, corporations, foundations, and other entities to assess their capacity, propensity, and affinity to support CAWST.
  • Utilize a variety of sources, including public records, databases, and media outlets, to gather relevant information.
  • Prepare comprehensive profiles and reports to support donor cultivation and solicitation strategies.
  • Proactively identify new major gift, corporate, and mid-level prospects through data mining, media screening, and relationship mapping.
  • Monitor media for news relating to donors and prospects, disseminating updates to appropriate stakeholders.

Pipeline Development

  • Collaborate with the Development team to manage and refine the prospect pipeline, ensuring alignment with fundraising goals.
  • Assist in financial forecasting and reporting related to prospect development.

Data Management, Reporting, & Analysis

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records in the donor management system, ensuring compliance with data protection regulations.
  • Generate reports and analytics to monitor pipeline progress and inform strategic decisions.
  • Adhere to the provisions set forth in the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FOIP) and Canada's Privacy Act, and maintain knowledge in this area.

Collaboration & Strategy

  • Work closely with fundraisers to develop engagement strategies based on research findings.
  • Participate in prospect management meetings, providing insights and recommendations.
  • Lead specialized research projects, including market scans and trend analysis, as required.

Qualifications

What You Bring

  • 2-3 years of experience in prospect research, fundraising, or a related field.
  • A degree or diploma from a recognized post-secondary institution in a related field. An advanced degree in Library & Information Systems is considered an asset.
  • Proficiency in using research tools and databases, such as iWave, or similar platforms.
  • Exceptional analytical skills with the ability to synthesize complex information into actionable insights.
  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Attention to detail and a high degree of accuracy in work.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines effectively.
