Position Overview:
We are seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral researcher to join a dynamic team of entrepreneurs and innovative research groups. The successful candidate will contribute to technology development with a focus on gas sensor calibration, system integration, microcontroller programming, and field testing. Additionally, the candidate will assist in grant applications and dissemination of research findings.
This project is a collaborative effort between two leading research groups, at the University of Calgary and Dalhousie University, and industry partners in the dairy cattle sector, leveraging complementary expertise to drive innovation in precision agriculture and smart farming technologies.
Project Description:
The successful candidate will work in a team of entrepreneurs and innovative research groups, supporting the technology development, particularly on tasks related to gas sensor calibration, integration, microcontroller programming, and field tests. The candidate is expected to support the team in grant application preparation and dissemination of results. Our partnership leverages the complementary experience of two research groups and industry partners in the dairy cattle sector.
The candidate will have access to state-of-the-art facilities, including:
·Advanced manufacturing technologies (resin 3D printers, laser cutters)
·Fully equipped electronics lab for circuit design and sensor integration
·A collaborative, multidisciplinary team of experts in mechatronics, software development, cloud computing, and cybersecurity.
The position offers flexibility to be appointed in either the Department of Biomedical Engineering or the Department of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering at the University of Calgary, depending on the candidate’s background and career aspirations.

Required Qualifications:
1-A PhD in bioelectrical, Mechanical, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or a related field.
2-Hands-on experience in:
a.Sensor integration and calibration
c.Circuit design and development
d.Communication protocols (MQTT, LoRaWAN)
3-Knowledge of IoT architecture, including platform management, components, protocols, and standards.
Preferred Qualifications:
1-Experience in 3D design and manufacturing.
2-Practical expertise in hardware development, including PCB circuit design, manufacturing, and assembly.
3-Strong technical writing and presentation skills.
4-Effective communication and teamwork skills.
