Job summary

The Nuu-chah-nulth Tribal Council’s Education, Training & Social Development Department seeks a permanent, full-time Post-Secondary Counsellor based in Port Alberni to assist eligible students with Post-Secondary Education funding applications. You will support enrolment into eligible programs and institutions under the NTC funding policy and procedures.

Your role includes advising by phone, email, or in person, reviewing eligibility, budgeting, and ensuring accurate student records while

Qualifications

• Post-secondary degree or diploma with 1–3 years’ experience in academic advising, counseling, admissions, or student affairs.
• Computer literacy with databases and high proficiency in Excel, email, and word processing software.
• Experience in a First Nations environment is an asset.
• Excellent people skills and ability to explain technical information clearly and diplomatically.
• Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
• Must have a valid BC Driver’s license and be prepared to travel within Nuu-chah-nulth regions.
• Provide references and criminal record check.

Responsibilities

• Proactively communicate with students and advise on funding requirements.
• Review funding eligibility, process missing information letters, generate approvals, and maintain files.
• Prepare student budgets and review invoices and living allowances.
• Assist students in achieving educational goals.
• Report student progress to First Nations.
