About the Role: Post Office Assistant

As a Post Office Assistant, your day-to-day will centre on delivering reliable counter service to both the general public and the local business community. You'll be selling postal products and services, sorting and distributing incoming mail, and making sure customers have the forms and information they need. When issues arise with deliveries or service, you'll be expected to step in and resolve them efficiently and thoroughly.

This is an on‑call, term position, so flexibility is key. Canada Post notes that the ideal candidate should reside within the community of Manitouwadge, though applicants from outside the area may be considered. The role also involves physical tasks such as lifting mail containers up to 50 lbs, pushing or pulling boxes, sorting mail, and standing for extended periods — so a reasonable level of physical fitness is required.

Responsibilities

  • Accounting knowledge: Understanding of general or post office accounting systems
  • Physical fitness: Ability to lift mail containers up to 50 lbs, push or pull boxes, sort mail, and stand for extended periods
  • Flexibility: Availability for temporary, on‑call work as needed
  • Language: Bilingual (English and French) — Bilingual Imperative (--BB) is required for this position
