Job Description

This postdoctoral fellowship is an opportunity to join our Improving Access and Care Through Implementation Science for Canadian Veterans and CAF Members (IMPACT-CVM; https://ohri.ca/en/find-researcher/jpresseau/impact-cvm) program, mentored by Dr. Justin Presseau (https://www.ohri.ca/profile/jpresseau) and Dr. Jen Olson. The program focuses on improving care experiences and health outcomes for Canadian Veterans and military personnel through behavioural and implementation science approaches.

Based in the Methodological and Implementation Research program (https://ohri.ca/en/our-research/methodological-and-implementation-research-program), and Centre for Implementation Research (https://ohri.ca/en/centre-implementation-research) the fellow will lead research centered on supporting the health and wellbeing of Canadian women Veterans, with emphasis on understanding and addressing behaviour change at both individual and healthcare provider levels. This postdoctoral fellowship is particularly suited to candidates with a strong foundation in behavioural science or health psychology and an interest and expertise in applying principles and approaches from implementation science to improve real‑world care. The fellow will play a leading role in the day‑to‑day research activities in ongoing and emerging research within the IMPACT‑CVM program. This will include collaborating with women Veterans, healthcare providers, researchers, and community partners, and applying behavioural and implementation science approaches to inform study design, resource or intervention refinement, and evaluation activities that support improvements in health and wellbeing for women Veterans. This position is based physically in Ottawa, with hybrid work possible.

  • Experience applying theory‑informed approaches to understanding and supporting behaviour change in health.
  • Strong interest in developing and applying implementation science, knowledge translation, and knowledge mobilization approaches in clinical or community contexts.

  • Experience engaging patients, Veterans, and/or healthcare professionals as research partners.
  • Experience applying behavioural and implementation science frameworks (e.g., TDF, AACTT, behaviour change techniques, implementation strategies, process mapping).
  • Strong project coordination, organization, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within an interdisciplinary team.
  • Flexibility regarding periodic deadlines and occasional meetings outside standard work hours to accommodate research partners.
  • Attention to detail and commitment to methodological rigour.
  • On site attendance will be required each week.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience conducting research with equity‑deserving populations or populations facing systemic inequities.
  • Experience integrating intersectionality or sex‑ and gender‑based analysis in health research.
  • Experience contributing to the co‑development or adaptation of resources, tools, or interventions with patients, Veterans (including women Veterans, where applicable), or healthcare providers.
  • Experience leading or contributing to implementation‑focused evaluations, feasibility studies, or process evaluations.
  • Demonstrated ability to contribute to competitive grant applications or research funding proposals.
  • Experience planning or delivering knowledge translation or knowledge mobilization activities for diverse audiences.
  • Experience working within an academic, clinical, or health research environment.
