Job summary

RBC leads as a Portfolio Manager to drive exceptional project delivery across a broad portfolio in CAPITAL MARKETS. You will identify at‑risk initiatives early, work hands‑on with Project Managers to restore troubled projects, and foster a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.

You will oversee portfolio health, strategic alignment, and financial performance while mentoring Project Managers to build organizational capability and resilience.

Qualifications

  • 7+ years in project or portfolio management with a track record of turning around troubled projects.
  • 5+ years of experience in Capital Markets with strong understanding of operational processes.
  • Budget tracking, cost forecasting, variance analysis, and financial risk management.
  • Excellent coaching, mentoring, and leadership skills for Project Managers without direct authority.
  • Superior stakeholder management, conflict resolution, and escalation capabilities.

Responsibilities

  • Identify at-risk initiatives early and monitor portfolio health.
  • Work hands-on with Project Managers to diagnose delays, scope creep, and constraints.
  • Co-create action plans to restore troubled projects to health and drive accountability.
  • Mentor and coach Project Managers with best practices in risk mitigation and delivery.
  • Maintain a standard, transparent view of portfolio status, risks, and dependencies.

What will you do?
Project Support & Risk Recovery
  • Collaborate with Project Managers across the portfolio to monitor project health and identify at‑risk initiatives early, taking a proactive approach to risk mitigation.
  • Partner directly with project teams to diagnose root causes of delays, scope creep, and resource constraints, demonstrating hands‑on leadership and problem‑solving expertise.
  • Co‑create action plans with Project Managers to restore troubled projects to health, driving accountability and positive outcomes.
  • Mentor and support Project Managers with passion and commitment, sharing best practices in risk mitigation, delivery execution, and leadership excellence to strengthen organizational capability.
  • Model and promote a culture of transparency, collaboration, and continuous improvement across all project teams.
Financial & Budget Management
  • Monitor and manage the aggregate financial performance and budget of the entire portfolio with precision and foresight.
  • Track expenditures against forecasts and ensure capital is deployed efficiently and strategically across all initiatives.
  • Identify budget variances, overruns, or funding gaps early and take decisive corrective action.
  • Escalate unbalanced budgets or severe financial risks to executive stakeholders with clear, actionable recommendations.
Portfolio Governance & Reporting
  • Implement and maintain a standard, transparent view of portfolio status, risks, and dependencies using enterprise tools.
  • Prepare compelling portfolio health and financial reports for senior leadership that drive informed decision‑making.
  • Ensure all projects remain aligned with organizational goals and strategic priorities throughout their lifecycle.
  • Foster cross‑functional collaboration and knowledge‑sharing to elevate overall project delivery standards.
What do you need to succeed?
Must have’s
  • Experience: 7+ years in project or portfolio management with a demonstrated track record of successfully turning around troubled projects and delivering results under pressure.
  • Business Acumen: 5+ years of experience in Capital Markets with strong understanding of operational processes and ability to navigate complex stakeholder environments.
  • Financial Acumen: Proven expertise in budget tracking, cost forecasting, variance analysis, and financial risk management.
  • Leadership: Exceptional ability to coach, mentor, and inspire Project Managers without direct line authority, fostering a high‑performance culture.
  • Communication: Exceptional stakeholder management, conflict resolution, and escalation skills with the ability to influence at all organizational levels.
