Job summary

Hypertec seeks a Portfolio & Commercialization Manager for its Research & Development team in Montreal. You will oversee the innovation portfolio, develop business cases, and coordinate cross-functional activities to drive strategic investments. English is required, French is a plus.

Qualifications

• University degree in business, commerce, engineering, science, or related field.
• Typically 5+ years in program or portfolio management, business analysis, commercialization, or related field.
• Proven experience developing business cases, market analyses, and feasibility assessments.
• Knowledge of project and portfolio management practices: schedules, budgets, risks, milestones.
• Experience tracking project budgets, forecasts, and purchasing activities.
• Strong analytical ability to translate technical/financial/market data into business cases.
• Strong MS 365 skills; Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Teams, SharePoint; PM tools are an asset.
• Organizational and stakeholder coordination with attention to detail.
• English required; French proficiency is an asset.

Responsibilities

• Manage the innovation portfolio with status, milestones, risks, decisions, and budgets.
• Support innovation initiatives through all phases of the Innovation Execution process.
• Define and track KPIs and portfolio health indicators with scorecards.
• Develop business cases, value propositions, market analyses, and feasibility assessments.
• Assess market potential, competitive positioning, and market-readiness for investments.
• Coordinate phase-gate prep and executive review materials.
• Provide project coordination across the portfolio: schedules, status reporting, follow-up.
• Track spending against budgets and forecasts; identify variances.
• Maintain portfolio documentation and handoffs to downstream teams.
• Collaborate with Grants & Partnerships to align with external funding strategies.
• Monitor market trends and inform portfolio priorities and opportunities.
• Identify portfolio risks and gaps; ensure visibility and follow-up.

What You’ll Be Contributing:

• Manage the innovation portfolio, providing visibility into project status, milestones, dependencies, risks, decisions, budgets, and overall portfolio health.
• Support innovation initiatives through the different phases of the Innovation Execution process, ensuring key deliverables, reviews, decisions, and documentation are completed.
• Define and track KPIs and portfolio health indicators, and develop scorecards and models to support project and investment decisions.
• Develop business cases, value propositions, market analyses, and commercial feasibility assessments for prospective innovation projects and partnerships.
• Assess market potential, competitive positioning, commercial viability, and market-readiness requirements to support investment and go/no-go decisions.
• Coordinate phase-gate preparation and executive review materials, bringing together business, technical, financial, commercial, and risk considerations.
• Provide project and program coordination across the portfolio, including schedules, action tracking, status reporting, and cross-functional follow-up.
• Track project spending against approved budgets and forecasts and identify variances or gaps requiring follow-up.
• Maintain reliable portfolio documentation and coordinate project handoffs to downstream teams.
• Partner with the Institutional Grants & Partnerships Manager to align business cases and commercial assumptions with external funding strategies.
• Monitor relevant market and competitive trends and share insights that may influence portfolio priorities and commercialization opportunities.
• Identify portfolio risks, gaps, competing priorities, and incomplete requirements, ensuring appropriate visibility and follow-up.

What Sets You Apart:

• University degree in Business, Commerce, Engineering, Science, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Typically 5+ years of relevant experience in program or portfolio management, business analysis, commercialization, product management, or a related field, ideally within an R&D or innovation environment.
• Demonstrated experience developing business cases, market analyses, and feasibility assessments to support investment or go/no-go decisions.
• Working knowledge of project and portfolio management practices, including schedules, milestones, budgets, risks, dependencies, and status reporting.
• Experience tracking project budgets, forecasts, and purchasing or procurement activities.
• Strong analytical skills, with the ability to translate technical, financial, and market information into clear business cases and decision-making materials.
• Strong Microsoft 365 skills, particularly Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Teams, and SharePoint; experience with project or portfolio management tools is an asset.
• Strong organizational and stakeholder coordination skills, with excellent attention to detail, judgement, and follow-through.
• English required; French proficiency is considered an asset.
