Job summary

Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre in Toronto is seeking a Patient Transport Porter to move patients between hospital locations and assist during examinations. You will ensure safe patient handling, respond to emergency codes when required, and support infection prevention standards.

Responsibilities include transporting patients for appointments, recording transport data, and performing related support tasks across campus as assigned.

Qualifications

• Successful completion of secondary school required.
• Proficiency with computer applications.
• Minimum of 1 year experience interacting with patients in a health care setting required.
• A minimum of 6 months recent Patient Transport Porter experience preferred.
• Recent Multi-Campus Patient Transport Porter experience preferred.
• Ability to work with minimal supervision, sense of urgency, customer/client focused.
• Ability to work under pressure and multi-task.
• Demonstrated good communication and interpersonal skills.
• Demonstrated ability to lift patients and to meet the physical demands of the position (standing and walking for extended periods of time).
• Understands the requirements of Infection Control & Prevention; the Health & Safety Act

Job description

Summary of Duties

• Transports patients to various hospital locations


• Timely transportation of patients for their appointments


• Responds to Emergency Codes as assigned or required


• Assists, lifts and positions patients to and from transport equipment


• Responsible for the safety and well-being of the patient while in transit


• If required, remains with the patient during examination/treatment procedures


• Records and/or reports data associated with patient transport details


• Performs specimens handling service


• Performs patient related materials pickup/delivery duties such BRADMA, charts, pharmaceutical supplies, etc. as assigned


• Inspects all transport equipment to ensure proper functioning and a high level of cleanliness, safety and adherence to Infection Prevention and Control requirements


• Other duties as assigned such as mailroom functions and other non-patient related duties


• Will be re-assigned to other campuses as required
