Job summary

Wescan Construction Services in Winnipeg, MB, seeks Journeyman Plumbers/Fitters to join our industrial construction team. You will install ventilation, water, waste and drainage systems, read blueprints, and ensure quality and safety on site.

Applicants should have a Manitoba Journeyman plumber license (Gas Fitter A/B an asset), >=3 years of plumbing experience, own tools, and a valid driver’s license. We support safety, teamwork, and professional growth on diverse projects.

Qualifications

  • Manitoba Journeyman plumber license; Gas Fitter (A/B) asset; Steam/Pipefitter asset.
  • Minimum 3 years of plumbing construction experience.
  • Strong understanding of plumbing systems and components.
  • Familiarity with local codes and safety protocols.
  • Ability to read mechanical and structural blueprints and plan repairs.
  • Ability to provide sketches/dimensions for subcontractors.

Responsibilities

  • Report to Site Supervisor / Project Manager.
  • Observe safety practices and follow Wescan safety protocols.
  • Install fresh air & ventilation systems, hot/cold supplies, waste and drainage systems.
  • Plan plumbing design, layout and pipe fabrication; cut/bend pipe.
  • Hang steel supports to secure pipes.
  • Assemble piping with copper/plastic; weld, solder, fittings, adhesives.
  • Connect fixtures to exterior water and sewer lines.
  • Perform underground rough‑in to top‑out finish.
  • Verify system integrity using pressure gauges.
  • Interpret blueprints to plan repairs/modifications.
  • Provide sketches/dimensions for drafters; assist with retrofits.

Job description

Wescan Construction Services is a leading mechanical contractor and service maintenance provider. We are currently seeking skilled and experienced Journeyman Plumbers/Fitters to join our construction team. The Plumber/Fitter will play a crucial role in ensuring the successful execution of our projects, contributing to the overall quality and functionality of the systems we install. This position offers an exciting opportunity for an individual with strong plumbing and fitting skills to work on diverse construction projects. The role requires technical expertise, strong problem-solving skills, and a commitment to safety.

Responsibilities:
  • Report to Site Supervisor / Project Manager
  • Observe all safe work practices and procedures and adhere to Wescan and General Contractor / Client safety protocols.
  • Installation of fresh air & ventilation systems, hot and cold supplies, waste, and drainage systems.
  • Identification of obstructions, planning plumbing design, layout and pipe fabrication and installation, channeling openings in walls, ceilings, and floors.
  • Hang steel supports for ceiling joists in order to secure pipes.
  • Assemble pipe systems, cut and bend lengths of pipes using saws, pipe cutters, and pipe bending machines, using welding, soldering, fittings, and adhesives to secure cut lengths of copper and plastic piping.
  • Measure, mark, install, and connect fixtures and appliances to exterior water and sewer lines.
  • Install underground rough in to top out and finish phase of job from start to finish.
  • Ensured integrity of plumbing systems through use of pressure gauges.
  • Interpret and apply mechanical and structural blueprints to plan plumbing repairs and modifications.
  • Provide sketches and dimensions used by drafter to create plans for subcontractors.
  • Research catalogs and vendor services for complex customized system retrofits.
Qualifications :
  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent. Completion of a recognized apprenticeship program.
  • Certification: Valid Journeyman plumber license in the Province of Manitoba. Gas Fitter (A or B), Steam/Pipefitter would be an asset.
  • Experience: Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in plumbing construction, preferably in an industrial or commercial setting.
  • Knowledge: Strong understanding of plumbing systems and components.
  • Code Compliance: Familiarity and adherence with local codes and regulations.
  • Safety: Commitment to maintaining a safe work environment and knowledge of safety protocols. Preparing daily safety reports and toolbox talks.
  • Problem-Solving: Excellent troubleshooting skills and the ability to identify and resolve mechanical issues efficiently.
  • Communication: Effective communication skills to interact with team members and customers and report maintenance activities accurately.
Education and Experience Requirements:
  • High school diploma or GED certificate
  • Red Seal Plumbing license
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Must have own tools
  • Mechanical Expertise: Proficient in plumbing systems repair and maintenance, equipment, tools and interpretation of mechanical drawings and schematics.

$44.14 - $47.08 per hour

Final Salary range offered is based on candidates’ skills, qualifications and experience
