Job summary

Wescan Construction Services is seeking apprentice plumbers, apprentice pipefitters and apprentice steamfitters for multiple long duration jobsites in Winnipeg. You will assist with the installation, maintenance, and repair of plumbing systems across commercial, industrial, institutional, and residential facilities, under supervision.

Ideal candidates have a high school diploma, are enrolled or eligible for the Manitoba plumbing apprenticeship, and possess a valid driver's license with own

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent; completion of a recognized apprenticeship program.
• Minimum of 1 year of relevant plumbing/pipefitting experience; industrial/commercial preferred.
• Knowledge of local codes and safety protocols; ability to read blueprints and specs.

Responsibilities

• Report to Journey Person, Site Supervisor and Project Manager.
• Assist with installation, maintenance, and repair of plumbing systems in commercial, industrial, institutional, and residential facilities.
• Install and assemble piping systems, valves, fittings, fixtures, supports, and related plumbing components under supervision.
• Measure, cut, thread, solder, braze, glue, and assemble piping types including copper, PVC, CPVC, PEX, cast iron, and steel.
• Assist with the installation of domestic water, sanitary, storm, vent, natural gas, hydronic, and specialty piping systems.
• Read and interpret blueprints, specifications, shop drawings, and installation details.
• Measure, mark, and lay out piping routes and equipment locations according to project drawings.
• Assist with setting plumbing fixtures, equipment, pumps, water heaters, boilers, and mechanical equipment.
• Perform pressure testing, leak testing, flushing, and commissioning activities as directed.
• Operate hand tools, power tools, threading machines, pipe cutters, core drills, lifts, and other plumbing equipment safely.
• Load, unload, organize, and transport tools, materials, and equipment to work areas.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment in accordance with company housekeeping standards.
• Follow all company safety policies, Safe Work Procedures, and applicable provincial regulations.
• Wear and properly maintain all required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
• Participate in daily toolbox meetings, hazard assessments, and safety inspections.
• Report hazards, incidents, damaged equipment, or unsafe conditions immediately.
• Coordinate work activities with other trades to maintain project schedules and minimize conflicts.
• Maintain accurate records of time worked, materials used, and work completed when required.
• Demonstrate a willingness to learn new skills, techniques, and industry best practices.
• Attend technical training and successfully complete apprenticeship schooling as required.
• Maintain satisfactory progress through the provincial apprenticeship program.
• Represent the company professionally while working on customer sites.

Qualifications

• Education: High school diploma or equivalent. Completion of a recognized apprenticeship program.
• Certification: Indentured Apprentice plumber license in the Province of Manitoba.
• Experience: Minimum of 1 year of relevant experience in plumbing, pipe/steam fitting, preferably in an industrial or commercial setting.
• Knowledge: Strong understanding of plumbing systems and components.
• Code Compliance: Familiarity and adherence with local codes and regulations.
• Safety: Commitment to maintaining a safe work environment and knowledge of safety protocols. Preparing daily safety reports and toolbox talks.
• Problem-Solving: Excellent troubleshooting skills and the ability to identify and resolve mechanical issues efficiently.
• Communication: Effective communication skills to interact with team members and customers and report maintenance activities accurately.

Education and Experience Requirements
