Job summary

YVR seeks an experienced Plumber to maintain and repair critical airport infrastructure across Sea Island facilities. You will diagnose and resolve plumbing issues, ensuring uptime and safety for operations and clients.

The role requires five years in an airport/industrial setting and a Red Seal in Plumbing, with gas/steam fitter tickets preferred. A BC driver's license and team-oriented, safety-first mindset are essential.

Qualifications

  • Five years’ recent, related experience in an airport/industrial plant environment.
  • Red Seal Plumbing is required; gas fitter or steam fitter ticket preferred.
  • Experience with back flow prevention testing and handling diverse mechanical/electrical equipment.
  • Ability to interpret and apply the National Plumbing Code.
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills; excellent communication and teamwork.
  • Valid BC driver's license.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect, repair, and test backflow assemblies.
  • Maintain sewer, storm, and dyke pump stations (preventative and corrective).
  • Respond to flooding and water line breaks.
  • Address hydronic leaks in heating/cooling systems.
  • Respond to natural gas or diesel fuel system issues.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve fire suppression system issues.

The department's success lies in its ability to proactively identify and address maintenance needs, prioritize tasks, and provide timely and effective solutions, thereby minimizing downtime and maximizing productivity.

This Plumber position presents a unique opportunity to work on the largest building in BC, exposing you to a diverse range of exciting systems. By leveraging your expertise in diagnosing and promptly resolving plumbing issues, delivering exceptional customer service, and contributing to a seamless and efficient workflow, you'll play a crucial role in maintaining the building's infrastructure and ensuring the utmost satisfaction of our clients. A sample of the many systems you will be responsible for include sewage, fire protection, dyke pump stations, fire hydrants and back flow preventers throughout Sea Island.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Responding to hydronic leaks: chilled, heating or glycol systems
  • Responding to natural gas or diesel fuel system issues
  • Responding to fire suppression system issues
Key qualifications include:
  • Five years’ recent, related experience in an airport and/or industrial plant environment, supplemented by a Red Seal in Plumbing
  • Gas fitter and/or Steam Fitter ticket is preferred
  • Demonstrated experience with back flow prevention testing, with various types of mechanical and electrical equipment, and in asset lifecycle development and management
  • Ability to interpret and apply the National Plumbing Code
  • Excellent analytical and troubleshooting skills
  • Good communication skills with the ability to work in a team environment with other trades, as well as independently, with little supervision
  • Demonstrated ability to make safety a top priority
  • Valid BC driver’s license

The shift schedule is 4 on 4 off (2 days followed by 2 nights), with a requirement through winter operations for 24/7 operations. As an employee on a shifted work schedule, you may be eligible for shift and weekend premiums.
