Job summary

Newfoundland and Labrador Hydro is seeking a Plant Security professional for the Bay d’Espoir site. The role focuses on monitoring access, patrolling facilities, and maintaining safety and security across powerhouses and structures.

The position requires basic security experience, standard first aid certification, and the ability to handle SCBA and firefighting tasks. It is a temporary assignment with a strong emphasis on safety and environmental responsibility.

Qualifications

• High school diploma and 1 year security experience; Standard First Aid certification.
• Ability to use SCBA and knowledge of fire-fighting techniques.
• Thorough knowledge of regulations and safety rules.
• Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.

Responsibilities

• Monitor and control movement of people and materials entering and leaving site.
• Record entry and departure times and maintain logs.
• Patrol Hydro facilities to ensure security and fire safety.
• Respond to fire alarms and assist in firefighting as needed.
• Operate respirators and manage safety equipment.
• Issue fuel to authorized vehicles and maintain fuel records.
• Record atmospheric environment readings and water elevations.
• Serve as first responder to Plant Emergency Organizations; administer First Aid/CPR.

Location: Bay d’Espoir

GENERAL DUTIES:

• Monitors and controls the movement of people and materials into and out of site;
• records entry and departure times;
• performs regular patrols and inspections of Hydro powerhouses and structures to ensure that all buildings and equipment are secure from theft and safe from fire hazards;
• responds to fire alarms and assists in dealing with fires;
• cleans respirators;
• charges fire extinguishers and SCBA;
• issues fuel to authorized vehicles;
• performs atmospheric environment services, records water elevation readings and maintains a record of the same;
• acts as first responder to the Plant Emergency Organizations and administers First Aid and CPR,
• and all other duties related to or associated with this classification.

Responsible for personal safety and that of co-workers by observing and promoting the Corporation's Safety and Health Program. Responsible for any environmental aspects of the job and performing work in an environmentally responsible manner.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• High school graduation, one (1) year experience in security related work, certified in Standard First Aid with experience in first aid administration.
• Must be able to use Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus and be familiar with fire fighting techniques.
• Shall have a thorough knowledge of all regulations and safety rules.
• Must possess an appropriate valid driver’s license.
