Your Role
Reporting to the Director of Operations, the Plant Manager will be responsible for the strategic direction, leadership and overall administration of plant operations. The Plant Manager will have the responsibility for building and maintaining relationships with the suppliers, customers, Sales, Nutrition, Operations and the Finance Teams, while leading the integration of strategic plans within the plant facilities and effectively overseeing the development and direction of the plant team to support the production growth, revenue, cost controls, the quality of goods produced in the facility and the safety of the plant and staff. Additionally, the successful incumbent will oversee staffing needs, ingredient supply logistics, production and delivery.
Day to Day
- Establish the overall vision and direction for the implementation of plant administration and monitor departmental performance against goals to ensure progress is being made and that corrective action is taken if necessary.
- Working with the broader leadership team, enhance and develop policies, procedures and service systems to meet the goals of the division and facility.
- Meet regularly with operations leadership team/production staff/sales force to address concerns, provide feedback and gather information.
- Manage recruitment, hiring, orienting, scheduling and performance management of facility employees.
- Implement and maintain Feed Assure accreditation and Quality Assurance program while working with the QA/QC Coordinator and the Nutrition Technical Integration team.
- Ensure the facility will meet and exceed requirements for Health & Safety, Feeds Act, Ministry of Transportation requirements and other regulatory obligations
- Provide input into the preparation of operating and capital budgets for mill site, review and use the monthly profit and loss statements to ensure expense control and proactively plan production goals.
- Maintaining a safe workplace for all employees, supporting the development and maintenance of a safety conscious culture; ensuring H&S meetings and H&S training occur monthly.
- Work with the maintenance personnel to determine and prioritize necessary repair items.
- Monitor ingredient usage patterns, record from approved suppliers to meet quality, pricing and production requirements, set up weekly logistics schedules for incoming ingredients.
Required Qualifications
- Post-secondary education in agriculture, industrial technology, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Strong background in agriculture, with knowledge of feed, nutrition, and good manufacturing practices (GMP).
- Minimum of 5 years of management experience in the agriculture, feed, or food manufacturing industry, demonstrating proven leadership capabilities.
- Effective leadership skills with a strong focus on plant operations and business processes.
- High attention to detail and strong accuracy in execution.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, including diplomacy, negotiation, conflict resolution, and people management.
