This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to build their municipal planning experience through exposure to a broad range of development files. You will work across a variety of planning and development matters interacting directly with applicants, decision-makers and external agencies while seeing the impact of your work in the community around you. This role offers considerable independence while gaining valuable hands‑on experience across a broad range of municipal planning and development services.
This position responds to planning and development inquiries, reviews development applications and helps applicants navigate Village bylaws and processes. The work will include development permits, development variance permits, subdivision referrals and zoning amendments, along with zoning research, mapping, GIS, property information and bylaw administration. The role also contributes to planning research, reports, public notices and development‑related Council and public hearing processes.

To be successful in this role, you will bring post‑secondary education in planning, local government, geography, civil technology or a related discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. You will have a minimum of two years of related experience, with a sound understanding of zoning, land use and development processes and the ability to interpret bylaws and property information, work effectively with applicants and the public and manage multiple files with accuracy and sound judgment. Experience in local government, development application processing, GIS or mapping systems is an asset.
The Village of Kaslo offers a wage range of $34.69 – $36.34 per hour, based on experience and qualifications along with comprehensive health and wellness benefits and participation in the Municipal Pension Plan.
