Job summary

Government of Manitoba is hiring a SP3 Social Service Worker to coordinate and secure placements for children and youth in the Winnipeg Child and Family Services system. You will assess needs, review options, and match with caregivers and resources, while handling admissions, transfers and discharges on planned or emergency bases.

The role involves maintaining caseloads, monitoring foster care resources, and working with diverse communities to ensure timely, safe placements.

Qualifications

• Post-secondary education in Social Work (Bachelor of Social Work preferred) or related Social Sciences discipline.
• Experience with child and adolescent development and behavior including effects of abuse/neglect.
• Experience with children and youth with high needs who are vulnerable and at high risk.
• Experience working with community resources and support services for children, youth, and families.
• Knowledge of provincial placement options, community placement resources, and support services.
• Ability to assess and recommend suitable placement options for children and youth.
• Ability to work effectively with a culturally diverse population.
• Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook).
• Experience with database systems such as CFSIS and STEP is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate and secure appropriate placements for children and youth in WCFS care.
• Assess placement needs, review options, and match with caregiver capacity and resources.
• Coordinate admission, transfer and discharge of placement resources on planned and emergency bases.
• Maintain caseload and monitor inventory of available foster care resources to support timely decisions.
