Job summary

Blackline Civil is seeking an experienced Pipelayer to install underground water, sewer, and storm systems in Alberta (Central / Northern Projects). The successful candidate will work in trenches alongside operators and Topman to ensure pipe is installed safely and to proper line and grade.

Responsibilities include installing pipes, preparing trench bottoms, aligning to line and grade, and coordinating with equipment operators.

Qualifications

• Strong line & grade skills needed.
• Knowledge of pipe installation methods.
• Understanding trench safety practices.
• Ability to read basic construction drawings.
• Experience working around heavy equipment.

• Prepare trench bottoms with bedding and compaction.
• Align and connect pipe to correct line and grade.
• Coordinate with Topman and excavator operator during trenching.
• Install manholes, catch basins, and fittings.

• Ensure proper compaction and backfill and follow safety procedures.

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Pipelayer to install underground water, sewer, and storm systems. The successful candidate will work in trenches alongside operators and Topman to ensure pipe is installed safely and to proper line and grade.

Key Responsibilities

• Install water, sewer, and storm pipes
• Prepare trench bottoms (bedding, leveling, compacting)
• Align and connect pipe to proper line and grade
• Work with Topman and excavator operator during trenching
• Install manholes, catch basins, and fittings
• Check pipe elevations using lasers or grade rods
• Ensure proper compaction and backfill
• Follow all safety procedures and regulations

Qualifications & Experience

• 2–5+ years experience in underground utility construction
• Strong knowledge of:
  • Pipe installation methods
  • Line & grade
  • Trench safety
• Ability to read basic construction drawings
• Experience working in trenches and around heavy equipment
• Physically fit and able to handle demanding work
