Type: Full-Time / Project-Based
Wage Range: $27.00 – $33.00 per hour, depending on experience and qualifications

About the Role

The Infracon Group of Companies is seeking experienced pipe layers for potential upcoming civil construction, mining, and pipeline maintenance work across Western Canada.

This role is best suited for a skilled and safety-focused individual with hands‑on experience installing underground utilities, storm systems, water lines, sanitary sewer, culverts, drainage systems, and related civil infrastructure. The successful candidate will be comfortable working in trenches, around excavators and other heavy equipment, and as part of a coordinated field crew.

Our projects may include road construction, earthworks, drainage, utility installation, pipeline maintenance, mine support work, site development, reclamation, and civil infrastructure upgrades. We are looking for pipe layers who take pride in quality workmanship, understand safe trenching and excavation practices, and can work well with foremen, excavator operators, labourers, truck drivers, and project teams.

This is an excellent opportunity for experienced pipe layers who enjoy varied project work and are open to supporting projects in different locations throughout Western Canada.

Key Responsibilities
Pipe Installation & Underground Utility Work
  • Install storm, sanitary, water, culvert, drainage, and underground utility systems as directed
  • Set, align, grade, and connect pipe according to project specifications and field direction
  • Work safely in and around trenches, excavations, bedding material, utilities, and active equipment
  • Assist with pipe bedding, backfilling, compaction, and trench preparation
  • Support installation of manholes, catch basins, culverts, fittings, valves, and related infrastructure
  • Read and understand basic grade stakes, laser levels, markings, drawings, and field layout
  • Check grades, slopes, elevations, and alignments to support accurate installation
  • Work closely with excavator operators to ensure safe and efficient pipe placement
Civil Construction Support
  • Support road construction, drainage improvements, site development, earthworks, and infrastructure projects
  • Assist with site preparation, trench cleanup, material handling, and general crew support
  • Coordinate with foremen, operators, labourers, surveyors, and other field personnel
  • Help sequence work to support safe and efficient production
  • Identify field issues such as grade conflicts, unsuitable ground, drainage concerns or utility conflicts and report them to supervision
  • Support practical problem‑solving as site conditions change
Tools, Materials & Site Organization
  • Use hand tools, pipe tools, small equipment, lasers, levels, and measuring tools safely and effectively
  • Load, unload, move and organize pipe, fittings, tools, materials, bedding and construction supplies
  • Maintain clean, safe, and organized work areas, trench zones, and material staging areas
  • Support proper storage and handling of pipe, fittings, valves and related materials
  • Assist with daily setup, shutdown, and cleanup activities
  • Report damaged tools, missing materials or site concerns to supervision
Safety & Compliance
  • Follow all company, client and project safety policies, procedures and safe work practices
  • Participate in daily safety meetings, toolbox talks, field‑level hazard assessments, and site orientations
  • Maintain strong awareness around trenches, excavations, heavy equipment, traffic, utilities, slopes, and changing site conditions
  • Use required personal protective equipment at all times
  • Follow safe excavation, trenching, shoring and confined space procedures where applicable
  • Identify and report hazards, incidents, near‑misses or unsafe conditions
  • Demonstrate a strong commitment to safety, quality, teamwork and productive work practices
What You Bring
  • Previous experience as a pipe layer in civil construction, roadwork, utility, drainage or infrastructure projects
  • Strong understanding of underground utility installation, trench safety, bedding, backfill and grade control
  • Experience installing storm, sanitary, water, culvert and drainage systems is preferred
  • Ability to work safely around excavators, loaders, compactors, trucks and workers on foot
  • Ability to read and understand grade stakes, markings, plans and field direction
  • Strong work ethic and willingness to perform physically demanding tasks
  • Good communication skills and ability to work as part of a crew
  • Reliable, punctual and willing to travel for project‑based work
  • Strong attention to detail and pride in quality workmanship
  • Safety‑focused attitude and ability to follow site procedures
Qualifications
  • Previous pipe‑laying experience is required
  • Experience in civil construction, mining, pipeline maintenance, road construction, drainage, utilities, reclamation, or earthworks is considered an asset
  • Valid Class 5 driver’s licence and reliable transportation are preferred
  • Confined Space, Ground Disturbance, CSTS, WHMIS, First Aid, H2S Alive or other safety certifications are considered assets depending on project requirements
  • Ability to lift, carry, shovel, rake, climb in and out of trenches and perform physical work throughout the shift
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather and site conditions
  • Ability to travel to project locations throughout Western Canada as required
  • Must be eligible to work in Canada
  • Drug and alcohol testing may be required depending on client, site or project requirements

  • Exposure to active equipment, traffic, noise, trenches, excavations, tools, utilities and changing site conditions
  • Physically active role requiring standing, walking, lifting, carrying, shovelling, climbing and repetitive tasks
  • Shift schedules, rotations, overtime and travel requirements may vary by project
  • Living out allowance, camp, travel, or other project‑specific arrangements may apply depending on location and project terms
